A DAY IN THE COUNTRY
When the Kingdom Seekers S. S. Class, taught by Mrs. Glenn Jones,
started their contest a few months back. Mr. Glenn Jones promised us a
barbecue at the close of the contest. So last Saturday, June 18th that
promise was fulfilled.
With the sun shining down, promising a lovely day ahead, we met at
Bette’s house at nine o'clock. By nine-twenty we were all in the school bus
ratin' to go. The bus was really packed and some of the girls were gallant
enough to stand up all the way to make more room. Our voices were raised
in song from the time we started
until we reached our destination,
which was a creek or shoals about a
mile from Gaithers church.
Immediately upon arriving, there
was a mad scramble to don bathing
suits or at least, to kick off shoes and
wade. The first person to fall down
was Rette (who is famous for such).
There were several candid camera
women along so we'll have pictures
to prove what we say. Mr. Lee An
thorn', who used to be our teacher
was present. So when he told us that
the cue, cooked so deliciously by
Troy Kendricks and Bo Jones. Would
rot be ready until another hour or so.
we proceeded to entertain ourselves
with a ‘ three-legged'' race and pitch
ing horseshoes.
The "three-legged’' race with the
teams Nanolene and Mrs. Jones vs.
Lois and Sara was won by the first
mentioned team for the latter tried
to win by hopping.
Nanolene then presented Mrs.
Jone.- with a birthday cake, which
she had decorated so pretty and on
tdflshe had “Ida Lee Jones'' written

in icing. Because Sunday was her
birthday, we, the class, had bought
Mrs. Jones a present, which she was
unaware of. and were to give it to
her at the 'cue. So we gathered
around her and sang our class song j
While we were doing this. Nell
Fulcher slipped our gift from a plain:
w rapping paper and there it was, all 1
white tissue and shining ribbon, re
minding us of Mrs. Jones, always
spreading sunshine wherever she goes,
Then Nell made her little speech and
w'e wish you all could have seen Mrs
Jones. She just stood there as if
rooted to the spot and all she could
say was “You’re all so sweet’’ again |
and again. We noticed a tear or two:
and we all felt sort of misty eyed
forgot But soon everything it was time to eat and bestj we j
except the
stew you ever ate plus meat and
everything that goes to make a sue- j
cessful ’cue. After that, time passed j
quickly and we were soon back in
the bus, forty strong, on the home
ward trail. We sang everything com
ing home from The Mummy Song to j
the rived most home up-to-date tired but one. happy And we ar-1
and
none the worse except for “chiggers”
and nearly all are blistered, Sara
Harris having a back as red as her
hair.
But there is one song we should
all sing and dedicate to Mr and :
Mrs. Glenn Jones for giving us a 1
really happy time—“Gee. But You're
Swell."

the Fashion for
Complexion Care
We're always interested when screen
stars give us a practical tip on beauty
care. Did you know that 9 out of 10
Hollywood screen stars, entrust their
; j priceless complexions to a popular,
inexpensive soap? Of course you
know how important it is for them
to keep their complexions fresh and
lovely. So you can be sure that a
complexion care they depend on will
work for you.

pore*. When you let [xtres become
choked, you are inviting Cosmetic
Skin. Cosmetic Skin, you know, is
the unattractive modern complexion
trouble that means dullness, tiny
blemishes, enlarged pores and when
d comes, it s difficult to correct. It's
much wiser to guard against this
hanger.
Here's what Loretta Young, whom
you see above as she looks in her own
bathroom, says: “I advise every girl .
to guard against Cosmetic Skin as I
do. I use cosmetics, of course, but I
always remove stale powder and
rouge thoroughly with Lux Toilet
Soap. It's a safe, easy care that keeps
skin soft and smooth."
All you have to do is use this nice
soap before you put on fresh make-up
it and is ALWAYS—no how sleepy matter how -before late j
or bed and you you'll are have j
you go to do
worries about Cosmetic Skin.
Hollytoood'* Bmnuty Bath
Again the screen stars give us a valu
able tip on beauty. They use their
favorite complexion soap as a beauty
bath, too.
It's a wonderful substitute when
you haven't time for a beauty nap
takes just a few moments and you
feel refreshed sure of daintiness.
The ACTIVE lather rids the pores of
stale perspiration, every trace of dust
an ddirt—leaves the skin really sweet.,
with a delicate lingering fragrance
you’ll love.
