Miss Eleanor Piper Entertains Bridge
Club at Her Home on Emory Street
Miss Elinor Piper was hostess at
a bridge party last Thursday after
noon, at her home on Emory Street,
the occasion being given in com
pliment to members of her club.

ident was in charge. The meeting

Obey.” Prayer by Mrs. Williams.
The watchword was repeated.
Mrs. Williams welcomed ail

to have our pastor meet with us,
and also Mrs. Tankersley, from Cov
ington. The minutes were read

tion Agent, introduced Mr. Joe
Guess, new assistant county agent,
who will be in charge of the boy’s
4-H Clubs. Mr. Guess spoke on
the value of 4-H club work in de
veloping citizenship. Mr. Guess said
that the boys and girls are our
greatest assets. Mr. Guess then de
livered to Gene Marks the gold
medal for 1938 awarded by Wilson
and Company for his outstanding
work in raising beef cattle. He then
gave Allen Savage $5.00 cash award
ed by Chilean Nitrate.

Meeting of Year with Mrs. Arnold
The Music Club held its first

One of the most enjoyable meet
ings of the Covington Book Club
was held Monday evening, having
the privilege of hearing Mr. Walter
Pachall, of the Atlanta Journal.
The meeting was held at the home
of Mrs. E. E. Callaway, in Academy
i f ings Park, at which time she
entertained the members and their
husbands.
The speaker was introduced by
Mr. Tom Callaway, Jr. Mr. Paschal)
gave a most interesting and enter
taining talk on a recent trip to
Mexico, Adding further interest to
his talk were pictures and hand
work brought back by him from
Mexico.
Accompanying Mr. Paschall to
Covington and who were disting
uished guests at the meeting, were
Mrs, Sims from the book department
of Davison-Paxon and Mrs. Also
brook.
Mrs. Frank Patterson Given Beautiful
Party at Home of Mrs. S. L. Waites
One of the loveliest affairs com
plimenting Mrs. Frank Patterson,
formerly Miss Tullie Lowe Smith,
a recent bride, was a miscellaneous
shower, given by the Claud Thomp
son Wesley class, Friday afternoon
at the home -of Dr. and Mrs. S. L.
Waites.
The entire lower floor of this
beautiful home was thrown together
and decorations of green and white
were carried out in every detail. A
miniature bride, on either side of
which were small crystal bowls of
narcissus, decorated the mantle in
the drawing room. Guests were re
ceived at the door by Mrs. J. L.
Elliott and Miss Julia Allen. In the
receiving line were Mrs. S. L.
Waites, Mrs. Frank Patterson, Mrs.
George Allen, Mrs. W. O. Patterson,
Mrs. T. N. Smith and Mrs. R. H.
Patterson.
Miss Allen arranged an interest
ing contest, “Love Sentences," the
prize being won by Mrs. Ruben
Hull, who in turn presented it to
Mrs. Patterson.

has been spending the past two
weeks here, was feted last Thurs
afternoon, at a bridge party
given by her daughter, Mrs. R. P
Campbell, at her home on Davis
Street.

Mrs. R. M. Tuck, Mr. C. E. Hawkins
and Mr. R. M. Tuck, showed a rare
gift for comedy in the selection,
“Which Is the Properest Way to
Sing.”
Two guests from Emory-at-Ox
ford, Mr. Harry Hutchins and Mr. |
Ricardo Repilado, proved to be
singers of unusual promise. Mr
Hutchins sang “Kashmiri Song
and “On the Road to Mandalay.” j
Mr. Repilado sang a "Mexican Love
Song” and “O Sole Mio.”
The hostess entertained at an in
formal reception following the close
of the meeting. The table in
dining room w r as overlaid with a j \
beautiful lace cover and held as a
central decoration a low silver bowl
filled with narcissi. Presiding at
the table were Mrs. J. R. Sams and
Mrs. S. A. Ginn.
