Beat Porterdale
By FRANK WADDLETON
Newborn girls’ high school bas
ketball team defeated Porterdale
girls at Porterdale Friday night,
34-13.
The game wasn’t much of a
battle. Newborn was out in front
at the half, 18-8. The final one
sided score shattered all of Porter
dale’s hopes of winning from New
born, having lost a close game
early in the season 24-23.
Cora Hodges was high scorer for
Newborn with 13 points. Mamie
Miller led the scoring attack of
Porterdale with eight points.

(Continued from Page Eight)
forerunner of this game the Por
terdale girls tangied with the Sears
girls and again lost to a superior
team. The difference in this game
and a game played between the
two teams some weeks ago, was
in the guards of the Sears girls.
Final score was 25-21.
Some- 500 spectators sat in the
gallery of the Porter Memorial
gymnasium and watched the
games and went home singing the
praises of people responsible for
the well arranged program. The
visiting teams always go away
with a pleasant feeling and with
an expressed wish that they might
again be invited to participate in
another game.

Game Protector

Monticeilo, Ga.
This is to warn the hunters who
have been putting off those hunt
ing trips. The season is almost over
and you had betteT hurry If you
want to get your share of the game •
There has not been enough hunt
ing in some sections this year
There are many bevies of bird;
that haven't been shot in this sea
son. This is one reason the birds
are so wild. It would be better for
the large coveys if a few birds
were shot out.
Ducks and geese are heading
north again and this is a sign that
winter is nearly over. Not many
flocks are seen on the lakes. Not
an unusually large number of
waterfowl have been *een on the
creeks, rivers and swamps. No
doubt there is more feed for them
here.
The writer and Protector Neely.
of Covington, had the rare oppor
tunity of observing a flight of brant
on a reoent patrol of Jackson lake.
The brant is very much like the
Canadian goose, but is smaller
They are seldom seen away from
the coast. This bunch was feed
ing near a public road and did not
seem afraid of men. No doubt
they had wintered on a protected
ground and were accustomed to
humans.
The lakes are full at last and j
plenty muddy. Recent rains have !
filled the rivers and creeks, but the
lake has not flooded as yet. The
lake level was low when .the rains
started and It takes plenty of wa
ter to fill it up. Fishing is not so
good now. but will be when the
weather settles. If the water
clears up a little and the sun
shines, some real fishing will be
had on Jackson lake.
Get your tackle ready and your
fishing license and try your luck
No lake in the state has more fish
than Jackson lake and its best
fishing Is between winter floods
and the closed season.
