Brick Store Woman’s Club Met at

met at the club house on Friday af

ported that three members- Mrs. W
V. Aaron, Miss Polly Haralson and
Mrs- Homer Cook attended every
meeting for the past year. Mrs.
Aaron has been the most regular at
tendant since the club's organiza
tion about twenty years ago. The
minutes of the November meeting
were read and approved. The club
expressed regret that the Peters
family and the Knight family have
moved from the community.
The president appointed Mrs. T.
J. Cook and Mrs. W. C. Spivey to
work in the Country Store
Plans were made for the Com
munity Christmas party to be held
on Wednesday, December 27th. Mrs.
T. J. Cook Mrs. Robt. Stanton, Mrs.
Parks Darby, Mrs. Paul Dyer are the
members of the program commit
tee. Mrs. Homer Cook and Mrs. Aa
ron Cowan will have charge of the
decorations. All Brick Store resi
dents and former residents are in
vited to attend.

Christmas Carol, followed by prayer.
December Meeting of Baptist Woman’s
Missionary Society Held Monday
The December business meeting of
the Covington Baptist W. M. S. was
held at the church on Monday, De
cember 4, 1939. Mrs. W. D Travis
presided. The opening song was “I
Love to Tell the Story.” Mrs. Tra
vis led in prayer.
The minutes of the November
meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. C. C. King gave a report of
the District Rally held recently at
Porterdale. Mrs. Travis expressed
appreciation of Dr. T W. Ayers’ ad
dress on Sunday. Splendid reports
were given by officers, circle chair
men and counsellors. Mrs. R. H.
Greene, Young People’s Director, re
ported that Mrs. H. B. Floyd would
be R. A. Counsellor for the coming
year
Mrs. J. E. Hutchins reported $9.40
on hand from October and Novem
ber offerings, $3.85 from the Septi
ma Simmons Circle as a Thanks
giving offering to the Co-operative
Program, and $2 00 from the Septi
ma Simmons Circle on the Hundred
Thousand Club. The offering for the
afternoon was $6.91.
A motion was carried that all the
circles and auxiliaries fill out a foot
of dimes, nickels or pennies for the
Training School at their December
meetings.
A motion was carried that prayer
services for Lottie Moon Christmas
offering be held at 3 30 each after
noon. Mrs. R. M. Sealey, chairman

Mra. Chas. Adams told of the trip
through Berry School recently made
by the Beta Club of Mansfield. The
Soil Erosion report of the Fact Find
ing Committee was read by Mrs
Homer Cook, vice-president of the
State Home Demonstration Council
Miss Eddye Ross, Home Demon
stration Agent, showed decorations
for Christmas. For a table decora
tion, Miss Ross used pine sprays
with cones sprayed with aluminum
paint, laid flat on the table- Cotton
with artificial snow was piled in the
center and about a dozen blue bails
were placed about on it.
Another decoration was made by
sticking toothpicks in a grapefruit
and putting multi-colored gum drops
on the protruding ends. This was to
be flanked by candles. Gum drops on
the thorns of several plum twigs
had been painted with alum
and placed in an aluminum

ing Religion.”
Mrs. William Berry gave a talk on
ministerial relief. Meeting closed
with prayer. Delicious refreshments

Methodist Church Holds Meeting
The Missionary Society of the
Methodist Church met on Monday,
December 4th, at the home of Mrs.
Will Cook,
The program was presented first.
Mrs. Warren Stillwell played “It
Came Upon the Midnight Clear." as
introduction to a program of wor
ship, Mrs. Hicks presided as chair
man.
The opening song was "O Come
All Ye Faithful.'’ followed by prayer
by Mrs Hicks. Mrs. Hicks gave the

Night, Holy Night,” very softly, the
song, “Jesus Call Us," was sung.

teresting talk on “Our Available Re

Miss Ethel Belcher, treasurer, gave
a report on funds collected during
week of prayer and also the monthly
report.
Mrs- Weaver, local treasurer, re
ported that twenty dollars will be
paid to a fund for repainting the
children’s department.
Mrs. Waites called attention to the
fact that a stoker is needed for
the parsonage, also some repairs for
the electric stove.
It was voted to have the stove
fixed and contribute $25 toward the
cost of a stoker.
Mrs. Waites, Mrs. J. L. Elliott and
Mrs T. U. Smith were named as a
buying committee to act in coopera
tion with Rev Emory in getting a
stoker.
The business concluded, a social
half hour was enjoyed. Refresh
ments of tea and cakes were served
by ,the hostess and her committee.
