BATTS
In 1790, according to the U. S.
census in S. C., no one by the
name listed; eight heads of fami
lies by the name in N. C.; in Vir
ginia four; in Maryland, three;
and none in Pennsylvania.
Those in N, §., were Benjamin,
Field, John, Joseph, Sarah, Wm.,
Wm., and Wm. Batts.
Those in Virginia were John,
John, Thomas Sr., and Thomas ‘
Batts, Jr.
Those in Maryland were Henry, f
John and William Batts.
According to the will books at
the various court houses in Vir
ginia, are to be found the old wills
of those by the name of Batts:
In 1632, in Northampton county,
Va., the will of Wm. Batts.
In 1675, in Westmoreland coun
ty, Va., the will of Wm. Batts.
In 1742, in Surry county, Va.,
the will of Wm. Batts.
In 1745, in Brunswick county,
Va., the will of George Batts.
In 1785, in Surry county, Va.,
the will of John Batts.
In 1797f in Surry coun ty, Va.,
the will of Mary Batts .

In 1825, Abraham Batts, accord
ing to the Newton county, Ga.,
deed books, owned land in the
county.
I11 1831, in Newton county, Ga.,
McAllen Batts made a deed to
Joseph Bishop.
Note—It is said that about 1824
McAllen Batts built a two-story |
home on the northwest comer of 1
the lot which faces the First
Methodist church on the west. Mr.
Ginn, a few years ago, bought and the j
lot, removed the old house j
built a nice up-to-date brick home.
In 1825, according to the Geor-
gia general land lottery drawing,
McAllen Batts drew one land lot
in Twiggs county, Ga.
