State Defense Meetings Called
By Commander Ryburn G. Clay
State Defense Corps Comman
der Ryburn G. Clay has
kev-men in every country in
State to call local meetings before
July 20. At these meetings na
mes will be chosen, from
County Commanders will be
lecied
Organization of the State De
fense Corps is proceeding rapidly,
i and with the appointment of Co
unty Commanders, the field work
( will get under way immediately,
At a later date the complete
plan of the State Defense Corps
1 will be made public, showing the
relation of various District and
County groups as well as the Wo
men’s Auxiliary. At present, how
ever, prior to selection of the
J County Commander, a statement
of the purpose of the Corps is
demeed necessary.
This plan is to organize
i volunteer services of loyal citi
zens who are oyer 35 yearss of
excellent character, in good hea
lth. and commonly recognized as
being loyal and patriotic, so that,
< should the necessity arise, we
will be prepared to - 1. asssist!
in the of
r good order; 2. protect vital in
stallations and public works;
s keep the activities of aliens in
the state under close observa
tion. State Defense Corps will
quite naturally be co-ordinated
r with National Defense for
best interests of the State in
which we stand ready to defend.
While no positive information
can be released for publication
that the formation of the State
Defense Corps is already assum
ing a stabilizing influence of
marked proportions. With no idea
of stirring up hysteria, this mo
vement is based on the realiza
tion of th e urgent need for ade
quate civilian defense training in)
this day of Avar that strikes be
hind front lines.
The State Defense Corps seeks
to develop that pioneer front
iersman self-reliance among ci
tizens which was the spirit en
abling our forefatherss to drop
their plow lines an pick up guns
to fight to the last man, woman
and child whn called on to de-
their hard-earned land.
It is this American spirit that
is called on now to weld every
community into a living, breath
