Two darlings were sent to us

f r j e nd and colleague, Willis Ben
Qibfrs f r om Washington to his
home at Jesup. Georgia. Mr Gibbs
suffered a heart stroke at his home
i as t night and passed away about
midnight.
While his health had not been had! j

not been confined to his bed, but
on the contrary he had been punc
tual sions, in and his attendence yesterday at the he ses- had j

been in his seat from the hour of
convening until adjournment, fol
lowing the debate with that earn
est attention for which he was
noted.
The Speaker has appointed Con
gressman Paul Brown of the Ten
th Distric, Hugh Peterson of the
first District, Stephen Pace of the
Third District, and myself as an
honorary escort the House
of Representatives to attend the
funeral, and we will leave here
with the family and remains this
afternoon.
Mr. Gibbs did not live to serve
the whole of his first term in Con-;
gross, but in the time that he was
here he had distinguished himself,
by his clear grasp of governmental j
affairs, and his keen, analytical le- i
gal mind was recognized.
He was appointed as a member
of the Judiciary Committee of the
House, one of the major com-!
mittees, and his work there was
superb.
He was born in Clinch County
April 15, 1889, educated in the
common schools of that county,
graduated from Mercer University,
and admitted to the bar in 1911
He was solicior of the City' Court
of Jesup from 1914 to 1924
Solicitor General of the Brunswick
Circuit from 1924 to the date of
his election to Congress in 1938
He leaves a son, Warner B. Gibbs,
an attorney of Jesup, and a daugh
ter Mrs. J. A Leaphart, and his
widow, Mrs Florence Reville

I will miss Ben Gibbs more than
any member of the Georgia de!f
gation. When I entered Congress
he had been here only a fw months,
and he and I learned “the ropes' ]
together. He was a consecrated
Christian of the old Southern
School, one of the cleanest and
truest men I have been privileged |
to know. His district and the State
has sustained a great loss in his
passing. passed bill in the ;
Yesterday we a
House, which will permit the Red
Cross to send mercy ships to Eng- j
land, or other belligerent countries the j
to bring refugee children out of ;
war zones. Many of our citizens
have expressed their desire to feed,
clothe and take care of one 01 -
more of these helpless little one.-1
until the war is over. To me the |
plight of these little children of
war torn Europe Is the most piti- j
able condition there. Those res
possible for this war have a lot
to answer for.
Sincerely
A. Sidney Camp, M. C.
