BY MARY LANE
Hello folks. Now that Scoop
Statham is scooping ’em up and
Roy Carter is Listening In every
week for P. H. S. Review we have
quite a bit of heavy competition,
but what one doesn't know maybe
the other one will. Nevertheless,
we’ve found out that WOMEN
aren’t the only gossipers! . . How
about it, boys? We had a
most welcome visitor Monday
morning while sitting on the
porch racking our brain for some
thing to write about. A long black
car stopped in front of our house
and its occupant says. “Say, have
I got news!”. “That’s just what
we want”, says us—and that’s just
what we got. Now we’re afraid
we’ll have to buy out the paper to
get it all printed .... We would
like to offer our deepest sympathy
to Pete Day whose (un) fortunate
lot it is to keep the senior diary
this year. We had that job last
year and were warning you. If
you ever get two days behind
you’ll never catch up. We found
the work so invigorating we ap
pointed Speed Rye our co-partner
and managed through her endear
ing effort and high class speed to
compose and preserve the famous
document . . . Mae Waddleton
has her troubles too. Hair trouble.
She says she almost lost Carter
during that rainy spell because
her curls refused to stay up ... .
We reckon those white outfits the
boys wear to gym classes are gym
suits but from my front porch they
don’t look like it ... . We think
we’ve found a bargain for some
fortunate girl. There’s a red velvet
turban down at White’s Store and
Perk says if he had a wife he
would buy if for her whether she
wore it or not! ... So here’s
your chance, girls. If you’re inter
ested in the hat see Perk. It might
mean a husband and a hat too!
Who knows? .... The next time
we go to the movies we’re going
to take ten pillows and sit on the
tenth one so we can se over Ellie
Coady’s six ft. two frame .
Ernest Bennett says to bring twen
ty and let him sit on the twentieth
one. He must be counting on sit
ting behind Dorsey Regan! . . .
Dub Smith’s neck was stretched so
far Sunday morning after attend
ing the movies Saturday night
they made him sit on the back
row in church to avoid unreligious
complaints .... Maybe every
body oughta sit on the front row
with Billy Crowell. Bill says he
sure likes that continued piece. We
bet he knows who the “Skull” is
too!
LOST AND FOUND DEPT . . .
Lost. The Andrews-Tarpley ro
mance. When found please return
to owners .... FOUND. A new
way to practice on your trumpet—
without the trumpet. See Izzie B.
.... FOUND; New’ isle seats—
ground floor—at the theatre. Only
occupants. Johnnie Andrews and
Peggie Cason .... We were a bit
dubious about riding to town with
Police Potts the other day. We
were afraid passers-by would
think the Porterdale jail wouldn’t
hold us and we w-ere having to be
escorted to the Covington Hoose
gow! .... Somebody has sug
gested “Wooing Dogpatch Style”
as an excellent topic for an edito
rial. We think Tin Pan (Smooch
er) Allen should be able to do
that job justice .... Chink Dial
went to Indian Springs Sat. night
but promised not to pay his Mama
any board if she told us who he
went- with! .... We wonder if
Carl Standard ever got him a girl
Sat. night? Anyway we've won
that little bet and w-ill be waiting
at the appointed place, at the
appointed time on the appointed
day for the appointed ice-cream
cone! Mildred Yancey said
she had a good time Sat. night
. . .
Smitty said he didn’t like our col
umn. Wonder why? . . , Don’t
tell anybody we said so but that
Izzie Bashinski is getting old. He
sat by us in the choir Sunday
morning and everytime he moved
his bones cracked so loud we
couldn't hear ourselves sing! . .
.
This columnist and Jack Wheeler
broke all known speed records in
the Bible Drill at B. Y. P. U.
Sunday night. We really find
those Bible verses in a jiffy don’t
we Jackson? . . . How many was
is? About one a minute? That’s
what I thought you didn’t say!
.... Now that Rough House Ly
da, Slick, Speedy and others have
left for school somebody’s got to
grab a chicken by the wing and
keep the home fires burning . . .
Poor Opal! . . . Oscar is going to
join the Coast Guards, but maybe
he knows how to write!......
They say Hazel Fincher was the
dark horse who turned out to be
the real thing! Howard
Mathis and Trip Berry seemed to
have something on their minds
Sat. night .... FLASH*—Reu
ben Poison has a new suit and boy
is it class! . . Really its red and
green checked! . . . Guess you’ll
be knocking her blind at Coving
ton Mill, eh Reuben? . . . Wonder
who Harold Grant has been get-
