to the fund, for the purchase of
cabinets for the Museum in Me

cloth for simple garments, to Ellis
Island, for the purpose of helping
persons of many nationalities de
tained there, in useful activity.

the home of Mrs. S. R. Campbell
with twenty-seven members pres

quilting on Wednesday Oct. 23.

their Eighth turinday with a party and surprise shower for Mrs. Harry Deitz, recent bride, and a charter
member. Mrs. Dennis organized the group as Y. W. A.’s eight years ago. Seated at the table, laden with

Claude Thompson Bible Class Of
Methodist Church Holds Meeting
The Claude Thompson Bible
class met on Thursday afternoon,
Oct. 10 at the home of Mrs. A. L.
Loyd. The spacous living room
was lovely with arrangements of
fall flowers.
Miss Bowers presided. She call
the meeting to order at 3:30.
She welcomed the members who
not been with us lately. They
were Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. Ben
Mrs. McCart, Mrs. Johnson.
All present took part in the
devotional. The 23rd Psalm was
repeated together, followed with
the Lord’s Prayer, repeated in un
son.
The minutes were read and ap
proved. The treasurer was not
present so there was no financial

First Fall Meeting Of The Children j I
Of The Confederacy Held Wednesday !
The first fall meeting of the
Covington Chapter Children of the
Confederacy was held at the home
of the newly elected president.
Miss Kathryn Ramsey_ on Wednes
day afternoon, October 9th.
Miss Ramsey presided over the
meeting, assisted by the director,
Mrs. W. R. Stillwell. The meeting
opened with the Salute to the
flags. Two visitors were wel
comed. It was announced several
papers are in the making. The
Chapter voted to hold the meeting
the second Wednesday of each
month. Plans for the coming year
were discussed showing prospect
for outstanding work to be
done by the chapter.
Following the business session
the meeting was turned over to
Miss Caroline Moore, program
chairman. The topic of the pro
gram was “Mary Curtis Lee,” the
wife of General Lee. Interesting
papers were given by Miss Moore.

the Woman’s Society of Christian
Service of Newborn, met at the
Methodist Church, Tuesday after
noon, Oct. 8th. The president, Mrs,

Smith read the minutes of last
meeting from the Sec’s new hand
painted book, painted by Mrs. O.
L. Vickery for a posterity to our
society. Mrs. Charlie Robertson
the society’s treasurer gave the
treasury report. Mrs. Nelson had
charge of the devotional, topic

Church Meets With Mrs. C. E. Trainer
The Philathean Sunday School
Class of the Presbyterian church
met at the home of Mrs. C. E.
Trainer on Tuesday afternoon. The
house was beautifully

The meeting was opened with
prayer led by Mrs. S. J. Morcock.

sided. Minutes of the last meeting
were heard and approved. Officers
for the coming year were elected,

tees. These committees will plan
all the details of the dinner.

cal events and the story of Colum
bus. Two contests were enjoyed.

prize winners.

of prayer offering as a Southern
Methodist group. At the close of
the meeting Rev, O. L. Vickery
installed the new officers for 1941.
