“The Light of London" Theme of
Talk by Dr. Dycer at Rook Club Meeting
Dr. Arthur W. Dycer, of Birm
ingham, Ala., was guest speaker at
the meeting of the Covington Book
Club which met Monday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. R. R. Fowler,
Jr„ on Floyd Street.
Dr. Dycer, born in Birmingham,
England, is pastor of the Congre
ga,tionalist Church in Birmingham
Ala. He was introduced by Mrs.
Tandy Bush, program chairman
and spoke most interestingly on
"The Light of London.” He
sketched briefly the history of Lon
don, saying the date of its founding
was uncertain. It existed as a for
tified city at the time of the Ro
man conquest r,nd provided a
“Light” or refuge to humanity ev
en at that early date. Its light in
the form of inspiration enabled
English poets and men of letters
to attain great renown. Its light

The Sara Burney Circle of the
Baptist Missionary Society met on
Monday afternoon, January 20th,

The meeting was presided over

Mansfield met in tne home of Mrs

10th.
The president, Mrs. M. D. Bled
soe, opened the meeting with the
singing of the hymn for the year,
“Jesus Saves.” The watchword for
the year was given, “Laborers to
gether with God.” Mrs. Bledsoe
gave a most inspiring message as
she resumed the new duty as pres
ident for the incoming year. The
Bible Study was given most forc
ibly by Mrs. R. L. Jackson and tne
prayer was given by the president.
The program was directed by
Mrs. Ella Lunsford. The topic for
the month, “An Urgent Gospel
Where We Live.” Special stress

meeting. The house was attractive
ly decorated for the occasion with
early spring blossoms. A number
of visitors were present in addition
to the club members.
