Ann Patrick, Mae Harwell, and
Jimmie Gassaway lead the Mans
field attack and sure did a good
job. Deloris Bowden, playing her
last game for Livingston ran up
most of her teams points. The final
game of the evening saw a team
from Jersey that was supposed to
win fall before a surprising Liv
ingston team. The surprise Liv
ingston attack was lead by Reyn
olds while Bryant lead the Jersey
cagers. The Mansfield gym was
crowded to the top and the cheers
could be heard for miles. The sen
iors of the MHS served sandwiches
and drinks.
The first game on Wednesday
night brought together a highly
favored Loganville team and the
Rutledge girls. Logamille w'as vic

ovington lead up to the half but
the shooting of Annette Ellis and
Betty Sullivan was a little to much
for the gals from Covington. The
ne ;-* game saw a highly favored
‘Porterdale team fall before a
strong Covington team by the score
of 18 to 11. Harry Fauikner and
his team mates were out to get
back the game they lost to Porter
dale. The Porterdale boys W'ere
handicapped by the small court but
Covington had a little trouble too.
Doc Burch and Monk Moody of
Porterdale seemed to be off. The
Porterdale bunch didn't look like
the team that ran through the
whole league the second half. The
stands again took a beating as they
w-ere packed to the top and the
people almost shouted the rafters
loose.
Thursday night saw some of the
best action that the league has seen
all year. It was started off to a
30 to 16 victory for Palmer Stone
girls over the Jersey gals. Polk,
Dial, Butler, and Ewing were a
little to much for Knlght and her
team mates_ . ^ The next game was
one of the best of the tournament
for Loganville and its stars ran
away with farmer and the Con
yers teami 41 to 9. Bryant Pa mer
showed he fans what basketball
could be like if you were just good,
Palmer passed shot and jumped the
Loganville team into the victory,
Frank Chancey showed the fans
, what a good left-hander could do
if he ever got open. Hulen Yancey
ran up a small hurricane in the
scoring column to take a few priz
es. Joe Farmer did all that Con
yers did in spite of the situation,
The third game of the evening saw
1 | a Social Circle bunch almost lose
I out to Mansfield. The SC girls won
the game 21 to 7. SC lead all the
way in the first half but it looked
I like Jimmie Gassaway got mad
and let go a few long shots that
thrilled the crowd and gave her
team new fighting spirit. Mans
field got within two points when
Virginia Lane opened up again.
This game was a real thriller of the
evening. Gassaway and the rest of
that Mansfield team fought but
just didn’t have enough. The final
game of the evening saw Worsham.
Malcolm, and the rest of SC take
over a strong team from Livings
ton. These two boys along with
Clegg did a lot of scoring and made
the fans take notice. The place
was packed but the people seemed
to be getting tired of cheering.

FINALS —Boys Game With
the teams both evenly favored Ref
eree Sam Tribble called the boys
to the center of the court on give
them his usual talk on good sports
manship. Unlike the girls game
where Loganville was highly lav
ored the boys game was won by
Loganville 27 to 14. this game was
supposed tc be very close so that
goes to show that you can’t tell
by other games played. Hulen
Yancey led the winners with 11
points, while Worsham led the
loosers with 7 points. The Logan
ville boys lead all the way except
for a few minutes in the first
quarter. The first quarter found
both teams very closely matched
with Loganville leading 5 to 4 at
the close. The second saw the Log
anville boys hold Circle to a 0 in
the scoring column and go ahead
to lead 19 to 4 when the half whis
tie was blown. In the third quarter
the Circle boys kept their own but
Loganville still ead bv the score
| hrcle 0 f 17 to 19. The last quarter the
\ boys took their Loganville
D ponents into camp and started
f run them ragged but Palmer
ton stopped that when he put on
a one man freeze and that sort of
sto p P ed Circle. Loganville will
loo s e its whole team next year, but
this year s boys are the coolest
team that the league has seen in a
long time. The boys don’t change
the expressions on their faces all
the game and when the other team
is leading they seem to take it as
if they were ahead. The don’t rush
the boys, but if the chance comes
they can go like lightning. They
have about the best bail handling
that has ever been seen here in
this part of the country. Social
Circle is not to be left out of the
picture, these boys were fast and
they have a type of ball all their
own. Capt. Roy Malcolm and Wor
sham are two of the best one hand
shots we have seen all season. J. T.
Clegg is a very good pivot man
and pivot shot. Moses and Shep
hard are two good guards that can
cut loose a long shot when its
needed. Roy Still of Loganville is
to be commended on the way he
guarded Roy Malcolm. Malcolm is
usually the high scorer of Circle,
but Still guarded him to a goose
egg in the scoring column. Capt.
Bryant Palmer and Capt. Roy
Malcolm have played their last
Yellow River game and both of
these boys are good leaders and we
hope to see them star for some
college in a few years. The whole
Loganville team graduates. Capt.
Palmer leads the graduation bunch.
Hulen Yancey the tournaments
high scorer, Frank Chancey, a per
fect left-hander, Clark McCulIors,
a real fighting center, and Roy
; Still a swell guard all go into the
world to earn their bread. Circle
loses Capt. Roy Malcolm. Wor
sham and J. C. Moses. All these
boys showed good sportsmanship
in the league and are sure to make
good men in this world of ours

FINALS Girls Game—With the
Mansfield gym packed to the top
and the Loganville girls highly
favored the final game of the
tournament opened amid a hurri
cane of cheers. It was about thirty
seconds after the first whistle had
blown that Annabell Starrett open
ed up the scoring with a very diffi
cult crib shot. Mary Sue McCul
Iors and Gloria Cooper likewise
followed suit and when the first
quarter ended Loganville was
leading 5 to 9. Virginia Lane open
ed the second quarter with a foul
shot to start her long and success
ful scoring streak of the evening,
Eliz Pirkie and Bonnie Peppers
joined the scoring column for Cir
cle and the second quarter still
showed that Loganville was lead
ing by the score of 11 to 5. Coach
| | C. T. Stevens got his girls in the
dressing room and gave them what
j i is with known as a little pep talk felong
a little begging. The third
quarter ran pretty even with Mc
CulIors and Starrett scoring for
Loganville and Lane ringing them
up for Circle. The last quarter was
the thriller of the game for McCul
j lor rang a long shot, Lane follow
ed suit with a one-handed shot
from the left hand side of the
court. McCulIors again let a long
one go, and a foul was called on
Atkinson. Lane made it and then
the fire works started. Lane rolled
up another from the left side line,
dropped one in the basket from
the foul line. Another foul was
called on Brook and Lane made it
good to make the score 25 to 21.
Eliz Pirkle let go a perfect set
shot that knocked the bottom out I
of the net. With Circle two points
behind the crowd went wild and
Referee Sam Tribble had to call for
silence before the game could go
on. The Circle guards took the
ball away from Starrett when she
tried to shoot and passed to Pirkle
who faked her guard and took
a set shot which she missed. Lane
followed it up and made another
of her perfect one-handed shots
from the left side-line. With the
score tied up the crowd had a hard
time keeping their seats. Ellis then
fouled Starrett and she missed her
and shot. she Ellis then fouled fouled McCulIors j
missed. Barrett Mc
CulIors and she missed. McClain
replaced King and she fouled Mc
CulIors and she missed again. With
40 seconds remaining in the game
Brooks fouled Lane and Lane made
good the deciding point of the j
game. Loganville had a chance to
score again but the guards that
McCulIors had pushed around all
night knocked down three consecu-
tive shots at the basket Ellis
should be commended on the way
I
Vhe Loganville guards, Green,
Brooks, and Atkinson did a good
job all the game but just couldn't
stop Lane and her team mates.
Barrett for Circle repeatedly took
the ball off the backboard to stop
follow up shots by Loganville
Gloria Cooper and Annebelle Star
rett bumped into each other in the
third quarter and that seemed to
put both girls off of their game
Capt. Virginia Lane and Capt.
Mary Sue McCulIors have both
played their last Yellow Ri\*er
games, both of'these girls are good
sports and fought hard for their
schools.
