The Sergeant Newton Chapter of
the Daughters of American Revo
lutlon met for its March meeting j
in the beautiful home of Mrs. O. j
W. Porter on Wednesday after
noon. Serving on the committee
with Mrs. Porter were Mesdames
George Stauffacher and George
Cochran.
In the absence of the Regent.
Mrs. Leon Cohen, the meeting was
presided over by the secretary,
Mrs. J. C. Upshaw.
The meeting was opened with the
Lord’s Prayer, repeated in concert.
After which the Pledge to the Flag
of the United States of America
was given.
The minutes were read and ap
proved. Reports of officers and
standing committees were heard.
The treasurer, Mrs. J. E. Phillips
made a satisfying report.

of Porterdale. who has been ex
tended an invitation to have her
papers transferred to the Sergeant
Newton Chapter.

The Covington Parent-Teacher
Association met Tuesday. March
11th for the regular monthly meet
ing in the school auditorium with
Mrs. R. M. Sealey president pre
siding.
The opening song, “America”
was followed with the scripture,
taken from First Psalms by Mrs,
Rourke, The Lord’s Prayer was re
peated in unison.
Mrs. H, B. Floyd, program chair
man interviewed six pupils of the
sixth grade who recently won a
trip to Atlanta awarded by the P
T A. for perfect teeth record.
They gave an interesting account
of the trip and expressed their ap
preciation to Representative T.
Callaway, Jr., and Senator R. P.
Campbell for securing passes to
the Cydorama, the Fox Theatre
and to Senate and House of Repre
sentatives. Mrs. Floyd closed the

votional by reading a part of the

beautiful seated luncheon last
at her home on Conyers
in honor of Miss Elizabeth
of Atlanta, whose mar
riage to Dr. R. C. Knox was bril
liantly solemnized last evening at
the Druid Hills Presbyterian
Church. Miss Porter was one of
the attendants, she and Miss Shep
herd having been classmates at
Agnes Scot College.
The luncheon table was a pic
ture of loveliness with its silver
and crystal appointments and flor
al decorations featuring the tradi
tional bridal motif of green and
white. The table was overlaid with
handsome imported damask and
was centered with a graceful ar
rangement of white carnations and
emphasizing the project to create
interest among the members. j

LEGION DANCE TONIGHT
The first dance to be staged in
the newly constructed American
Legion Hall will be held tonight
The event will be sponsored by the
Newton County Post No. 32 of the
American Legion.
The dance starts at 9 o'clock
and lasts until 1 a. m. Good music
has been arranged for and all whr
attend are assured of a good time.
