GIRL A BOLT TOWN
In the Spring a young man's fan.
cy lightly turns to thoughts of love,
but they couldn’t even wait for
for Spring, which will arrive very
soon By “they” we mean Mamie
Venable and Floyd Lott, who were
married last Saturday after a
whirlwind courtship.
Now comes word that Buck
Brown has presented Doris Child
ers with a lovely ring—AND has
another to match it! So watch out,
boys and girls, Spring is here!

Claude (better known as Jay
bird) Yarbrough was home from
Fort Jackson last week-end and
was very elated over the fact that
he is privileged at last to shoot that
gun he has carried around so long!
Lamar Merritt has returned to
Fort Bragg, N. C., after spending
last week with his parents.
John Martin drove up from Eat
onton last week-end and it seems
he is reviving an old romance!
There is a certain lad who thinks
his girl friend is two-timing him
while she isn’t one bit! Stop kid
ding YOURSELF, J.
STREET SCENE—Phyllis Vena,
ble, all dressed up, looking cute,
walking down the street and a
passing auto drenching her with
mud. Too bad. Phyllis!
B tcha Pete Niblett is no Sphinx
when he goes to see that Spinks
girl in Monroe!
A young lady said Ernest Cous
sens makes a handsome cowboy—
BUT Horace Butler wishes he
would quit riding through his
yard i
Gertrude Cannon is driving the
car now while Sister Willie is
biking. Sara Rowe is another who
has deserted the bicycle for the
horse! Marie Rabun says she
should place a sign “Village Inn”
for she only had 14 “spend the
nighters” the other night!
Fred and Snig Lott now have a
new car to go with the new horn.
Next in order will be some new
girls! .
Due to parental objections. Bud
dy Cain did not become a bride
groom last week-end. But she did
send him a sweet message!
Mattie German and Vivian Ev
ans along with the Cooter Paynes,
attended the WSB Barn Dance last
Saturday night and Mrs. Payne
says they did enough laughing for
| all who missed it.
] Another sign of Spring is the
: baseball meeting held at Cooter
Paynes last Saturday morning.
Several boys showed up for this
j first meeting of the season. It is
hoped there will be more coopera
tion among the boys this year and
MORE IMPORTANT, more inter
est among the people of Covington
Mills! There is nothing wrong
with a good clean sport and this
happens to be the only one our
community has a showing in—-so
why not DO YOUR PART in
backing it!
There aint no justice! There is
a certain fellow who sleeps all
day Sunday and then notices when
we are ten seconds late for work
on these cold mornings! His in
itials are JWB.
There is a certain little lady
who can really make Edward
Smith’s face turn tomato red!
Mrs. Alford is still confined to
her home due to illness. It is hoped
she will soon be recovered.
Mrs. Fannie Bates, mother of
Bill Bates, is ill at the Emory Uni
versity hospital.
Also at the hospital is “Dinky”
Satterfield, who has had an op
tical operation.
At the time of this writing, Mon
day night, our, father still seems
to be “Holding his own”. We hope
and pray that as time passes his
bad days will be fewer and his
good days more numerous. For the
benefit of those who has asked, he
is still at the Emory Hospital.
If Roy Carter and Flash Lane
would only tell us the secret of
their ability to get both quality
and quantity in their columns—
then perhaps we’d be worthy of
the bouquets they have handed us.
SANDRA’S BAUGH’S PARTY
Little Sandra Baugh was the

fourth birthday, Saturday, March
15th.
Games were enjoyed by the lit

BY MARY LANE
Hello folks. This leaves our
mother pretty sick *nd ourselves
pretty busy, as we have been as
signed to the scullery to test out
Our culinary art during her illness
What with the family complaining
of little pains in the abdomen and
the vicinity whereabouts, origin of
pain unknown: Even if they insist
It’s my cooking, we’re about to
live through it all, even though the
doubtful expressions on the family
faces are very depressing and dis
couraging.
We only have time to piece to
gether a few notes for you folks
this week and the column will be
short for that reason—for which
you honorable readers are no
doubt thankful, so hang on, folks,
while we prattle between dishes

crazy about that little gal. Ever

honored member of the P. S. W.
Getting short of members eh, Don

been ill from extraction of a wis

we’ll bring you a bag of horehound
candy . . . Incidentally, Roberta
Bailey’s pet peeve is wasps ....
John Hackney says he and his
father are going into business to

be’ he meant pop and corn ....
Stewart Murray has a new car
and no time to drive it. Tut, tut,
Stewart, but it must be prety con

to go to the clinic to have it paint

rival in our town, is getting ac
quainted soon enough Of
course it’s nothing to me, Juniors,
but the present Seniors gave last
year’s Seniors a swell banquet, and
we think they deserve one from
you in return . . . The Juniors
are making a profitable business
out of rummage sales. The one
staged in Covington last Saturday
was a big success and yours truly
acted as treasurer for about two
hours, Happy to assist you jit
tery juniors . . . And thanks Red
Grant for being so swell about it
but your friend Alvin was getting
a little too noisy . . , We’ve often
wondered why the Senior class
doesn’t secure passes from the
state representative (or ever who
you secure passes from) and visit
the Atlanta Constitution, get their
pictures in the paper, and take us
along , . , With Statham and Car
ter at bat we have quite a bit of
heavy competition Looks as if
the News is going to have to de

here comes another profit making
tip. Some folks come to the show
so much why don’t you sell them a
season ticket? Or wwould that be
profitable? Probably not. They
would likely expect a discount .
Roy Carter and Scoop Statham are
thinking about joining up with
the News staff. (Wonder what the
boss would have to say about that)
j • . . They tell me they found out
, what makes things tick last Wed

they establish a Bureau of Infor

Miss Davis had them . . . Margie
