Covington and Newton County
women will have an oportunity to
learn easier ways of turning
homemaking into a more pleasant
experience at he Homemakers
Conference, which opens this
morning at 10 o’clock in the Cov
ington School Gymnasium.
The Conference is being spon
sored by the Covington Woman’s
Club of which Mrs. R. M. Mobley is
acting president. The City or
Covington and the electrical ap
pliance dealers of tne community
are cooperating in putting on the
Conference. The theme for the
Conference is “Give Wings to
Work.”
Miss Elizabeth Parker, home
economist for the Georgia Power
Company, will illustrate, with
practical demonstrations, a variety
of valuable and timely trends in
homemaking.
The second session of the Con
ference will be held this afternoon
at 3 o'clock. Session will be held
at 10 and 3 o’clock tomorrow and
the final session will be held to
morrow night

Both the Sunday School and the
Church programs will be planned
around the Easter theme. A spe
cial feature of the program will
be the Christening of several
children at the Sunday service.

Sunrise Service for
Third Year.
Covington’s third annual Easter
Sunrise Services will be held Sun
day morning at 7:30 o'clock in the
public square with a large crowd
expected to attend. In the evegt
that it is raining, the program
will be held at the court house or
one ot tie churches.
Arrangements for the program
have not yet been f u Hy worked
outi but should be completed today
or tomorrow. The Sunrise services
are sponsored by the Covington
Kiwanis Club and the Covington
Music Club and the Emory-At
oxford Glee Club will provide the
m usical program under the dree
t ion of Professor Virgil Y, C. Eady
T he Rev. Walker Combs, pastor of
the Fjrst Baptist Church, will pre
side and will deliver the Easter
message.
Easter hymns will be sung by
the congregation and special num
bers will be rendered by the Glee
; Club and Music Club jointly
; Those who attend are assured ot
a most interesting and enjoyable
program as well as one of spiritual
uplift. The great success of the past
two Easter Services is a contri
buting factor to the continuance of

Governor Eugene Talmadge
will be in Covington next Mon
day to address the crowds that
are expected to assemble on the
east side of the Equare for the
Newton County Fat Cattle Show.
The Governor will arrive in
the City about noon and after
his speech he will look over the
cattle on exhibit. . Tom Linder,
Georgia’s Commissioner of
riculture. has also signified his
intention of attending the Show.
It is expected that several others
will be on hand.
The Show is being sponsored
by the Covington Kiwanis Club.
The agricultural committee of
the Club, winch has charge of
the arrangements, is composed
of Frank Williams. Sam Hay, Ike
Dobertson and Sheriff Grady
; Benton. Sheriff Benton is the
I chairman in charge. This commit
tee has been busy for the past
several days making last minute
arrangements
A large number of Newton
County farmers, Four-H Club
members and members of the
Future Farmers of America have
entered exhibits to compete for
the cash awards donated by the
Kiwanis Club and the Bank of
Covington and Trust Company.

R R. Fowler, Club president,
presided over the meeting and
announced that the Kiwanis Club
would again sponsor an Eastdr
Sunrise service this year, to be
held next Sunday on the Square.
Details of the Service were work
ed out at a meeting of the Board
of Directors last Friday night.
V Y. C. Eady led the group in
singing several musical selections,
accompanied at the piano by Miss
Fletcher Lou Lunsford.
President Fowler then turned
the meeting over to Sam Hay,
program chairman for the quarter,
Mr. Hay expressed his apprecia
tion for the cooperation extended
him by the Club members and
