Second Knitting Quota Nearing
Completion by Red Cross Circle
The Knitting Circle of The
American Red Cross met at the
home of Mrs. J. W. Hooten on
Thursday afternoon with twelve
present.
The second quota to be sent in
by the Red Cross Knitting group
is nearing completion.
The articles are:
5 men’s sweaters
10 women's sweaters
20 children's sweaters
24 beanie caps
fi pairs of wristlets
6 pairs of mittens

The regular monthly meeting of
the Sallie Sowell Circle of Porter
dale Baptist W. M. S. was held
Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the
home of Mrs. Joe Burch. Tne
meeting opened by repeating the
watchword for the year. Dev. by
Mrs. Burch, Prayer by Mrs. L. M.
Lyda. We were glad to have Mrs
Pebble Sowell and Mrs. L. M.
Lyda as visitors. All committees
gave very interesting reports. A
new Ways and Means Committee
was appointed for the next quarter
as follows, Mrs. Inez Wheeler
Mrs. Tommie Hood and Miss Irene
Circle No. II of Presbyterian
Auxiliary Meets with Mrs. Patrick
Circle No. 2 of Woman’s Auxili
ary of Presbyterian Church met at
the home of its chairman, Mrs. L. !
A. Patrick, on Monday afternoon
with an unusually large attend
ance. !
Mrs. J. S. Gardner, Sr., led the
devotional for the afternoon, us
ing as her subject “Nuggets From
the Mine.” The Scripture verses
related to prayer since the theme |
for the devotionals this year is ;
“Teach Us To Pray.”
Mrs. Patrick presented the pro- 1
gram which was a review of the
year Book of Programs.

cle member was asked to bring
their coupons to the circle meet
ing each month. Circle members
were also urged to bring Bibles
each month to the meeting.
A delightful social period was
enjoyed at close of meeting. The
rooms were atractively decorated
w ith lovely arrangements of spring
flowers in shades of yellow and
white, Ice cream and cake, in
chosen color schemes were served
by the hostess.
Newton County Nurses Club Met
Tuesday Evening with Mrs. Skinner
The Newton County Nurses Club
met Tuesday evening at the home
of Mrs. Lawton Skinner, with six
members and one visitor present.
The home was attractively dec
orated with spring flowers. Mrs.
Skinner conducted an inspiring
devotional on the crucifixion and
Resurrection of Christ, reading
from the twenty-third and twenty
fourth chapters of St. Luke. Mrs.
George Stauffacher, president,
presided over the business session,
during which time several import
ant factors concerning nursing
and medical profession were dis
cussed. In behalf of the club. Mrs.
Annie Lee Da.y expressed regret
of losing one of the most valuable
