Miss Birchmore (lives Beautiful Bridge
Tea at American Legion Hall Friday
One of the loveliest occasions of
the season which highlighted this
weeks social calendar, was the
bridge party given by Miss Char
lotte Birchmore at the American
Legion Hall on Friday afternoon.
The spacious Legion Hall was
thrown open for the occasion and
decorated with a profusion of mix
ed late summer flowers and ever
greens.
Expressive of exquisite details
were the beautiful handpainted
taly cards made by the hostess,
These cards were ornamented with
tiny sea shells to form the petals
of various colored flowers. The .
first prize, won by Mrs E. L.
S’tephenson, was hand - painted
companion pictures, using sea
shells to form baskets of different
flowers. Second prize, a picture
gtud y ~ln “brown and white” was
awarded Mrs. S. J. Morecock
A delicious salad course, car
rying out the chosen color scheme,

The first fall meeting of the
Book Club was held Monday after
noon, at the home of Mrs. O. W.
Porter, on Conyers Street
The spacious reception rooms

early fall blossoms. Mrs,. S. C.
Candler had charge of a most in
teresting and enjoyable program
on ‘‘Wit." She discussed the dif
ference between wit and humor
and its effect on writings through
the different periods. Several of
the members contributed humor
ous .short stories.
