from
Service Men
; November 14, 1941
Dear Editor:
Just a line of thanks to you and
the American Legion for sending
me my copy of the Covington
News, it sure is swell to know
that you have friends back home,
and to read about your friends. I
like army life fine, I must say that
you get to see a Jot of the world.
I have been in the army 5
months, and have traveled from
New York City to Miami, Fla., and
I hope to see some more of the
world. I have heard some of the
boys say that Army life was hard,
personally I think ^hey are wrong.
Thursday, November 27, 1941
A fellow can make it hard or he
can make it easy, after all, life is
what you make it anyway. I was
lucky to get in such a good branch
of service as the Chemical Warfare
Service. I think I am the only boy
from the Newton county draft
board in this branch of service.
We don’t have to march but 30
minutes each day, and go to
. school about 6 or 7 hours a day,
but we have some rest periods in
j between classes. Our classes last
■ from 30 minutes to 1 1-2 hours at
a time, then we have a 30 minute
rest period. We have from 11 a. m.
to 1 p. m., for lunch, and from
1:00 to 3:30 p. m., we hold classes,
from 3:30 p. m. till 6:00 a. m., we
a re off duty and go off the post
to town, which is only 1 mile from
the Air Base.
We put on a demonstration Arm
istice Day for the public and for
the men of the base. Say, how
about starting a column for the
boys in the service that write to
the paper. I think it will be swell.
Tnanks again for the News and
here's hoping that it will grow
and grew as it always has. Until
next time, I’ll say, ‘Keep ’Em
Flying’’ and so long.
