One of the most delightful af
fairs of last week was the bridge
tea . on Thursday afternoon at
which Mrs. R, H. Trippe and Miss
Julia Aiken entertained members
of their clubs together at the
home of the former on Conyers
Street.
The house was decorated
throughout for the occasion with
artistic arrangements of chrysan
themums, roses and winter ber
ries. Awards for high score were

Miss Martha Ramsey Entertained Small
Group of Friends on Monday Evening
Interesting among informal af
fairs of this week was the bridge
party at which Miss Martha Ram
sey was hostess on Monday eve
ning at her home on Floyd Street.
A yellow color motif prevailed
in the attractive decorations. Yel
low chrysanthemum and sprays of
autumn foliage were arranged in
the living room, and the lace-cov
ered table in the dining room was
graced with an arrangement of
yellow roses, flanked on either
side with crystal candleabras
Methodist Youth Fellowship of Newton
County To Hold Meeting Tuesday
The young people in the Meth
odist Youth Fellowship of Newton
County will hold their regular
monthly meeting Tuesday evening,
Dec. 2, at 7:30 o’clock at North
Covington Church.
Let each member make a spe
cial effort to attend this meeting,
since Mrs. Robert McDougall, of
Atlanta, who was recently elected
the state organizer of the W. C.
T. U., will be the guest speaker,
Her subject, “Am I My Brother’s
Keeper,” should interest every
one.
Mansfield Garden Club Holds November
Meeting at Home of Mrs. L. C. Harwell
The November meeting of Mans
field Garden Club was held at the
home of Mrs. L. C. Harwell. The
co-hostesses were Mrs. Wm. Fred
eric, Miss Annie C. Hays, Mrs. H.
C. Hays, and Mrs. M. D. Bledsoe.
The subject of the program for
the afternoon was “Transplant
ing.” Those on the program com
mittee were Mrs. R. T. Jackson i
and Mrs. Anson Prosser. Each
member of the club was presented
a printed order of program, on
the front of which was a beauti
fully colored autumn leaf. The

B. Vardeman will be hostess at a
kitchen shower at her home in
Covington and on Saturday eve
ning Miss Miriam Hawkins will
entertain at a buffet supper as a
complimentary gesture to Miss
Cook and Mr. Trimpi.

The Starrsville Garden Club
held their regular meeting at the
club house Wednesday afternoon,
Nov. 19, with Mrs. C. W. Jackson
as hostess.
Mrs. Jackson gave the devo
tional, using as her subject:
“Thanksgiving and Flowers.” Solo,
“Lily of the Valley,” by Mrs. B. J.
Anderson.
A short' business session was
held. Mrs. R. D. Dorsey, the presi
dent, appointed the following
nominating dommittee: Mrs. L. H.
Cook, Mrs. W. H. Corley, and Mrs.
T. C. Parker.

The Covington Music Club met
at the home of Mrs. T. C. Swann
on Tuesday evening, Nov. 18. Fol
lowing the reading of the minutes
and the report of the treasurer
the president, Mrs. R. R. Fowler,
Jr., named the nominating com
mittee for officers for the new
year.
After some discussion the club
voted to have a Christmas Com
munity Sing at the Covington
High School gymnasium on a date
to tie announced later. The club
is to contribute one or two special
numbers on this occasion. A com
mittee, composed of Mr. Mor
ccjck, Mr. Hawkins and Miss Luns
ford, will make the arrangements.

director of music in the Porter
dale school, to attend the Christ
mas program at Porterdale on
Dec. 14 at 7:30 o’clock, was great
ly appreciated by the club.

At the Porterdale Woman’s
Club meeting Monday night Mrs.
Marshall Capes was voted into the
club as a new member. The club
discussed and approved the plan
of having a Christmas party at
the December meeting.
The British War Relief Com
mittee reported 132 finished gar
ments, 20 knitted pieces and 32
second hand garments to be turned
in at Atlanta headquarters. The
Library, Kindergarten, and Bet
ter Films Committees also reported
their work during the past month
It was suggested that a Nutrition
class be organized by the club. A
committee to work out the details
of the class was appointed.
The Hostess Committee reported
77 members present and two visi
tors. Mrs. R. M. Paty, Jr., won
the attendance prize. Mrs. Thel
ma Parr gave thl Treasurer's re
port. Program, decorating, and re
freshment committees for the next
month were appointed by the pres

the ribbon for artistic arrange
ment and Mrs. J. B. Spears, Sr.,
