Covington Garden Club to Have
First Fall Meeting on Wednesday
The Covington Garden Club,
under the leadership of Mrs. T. C.
Swann, president, will begin its
new years program at a joint
luncheon meeting Wednesday,
September 2, at one o’clock at the
American Legion building. Group
I, Mrs, C. D. Ramsey, Jr., chair
man will be in charge of the ar
rangements and guest speaker will
be Mr. Meadors, horticulturist and
overseer at Porterfield, the
of Mr. James H. Porter at Macon.
He will speak on the cultivation
of roses.

At Brilliant Evening Ceremony

The couples spoke their vows
before a beautiful setting of white
blossoms, myriads of candles and j
palms. A central arch of 21 1
candles, flanked by two smaller
arches, posed against palms form

radiant brunette beauty was en
hanced by her wedding gown of
lustrous ivory satin fashioned
with a sweetheart neckline, long
j tight bodice appliqued to a full
graceful skirt which extended to
form a long train. Her veil of
illusion tulle was attached to a
coronet of princess lace. She wore
a moonstone and diamond brooch
presented to her grandmother,
Harriett Young Todd, on her wed
ding day. The lace adorning the
brides’ coronets was purchased in
Europe by the late Mrs. James H.
Porter, their aunt. Both brides
carried bouquets of white orchids
and swainsona. ■

Club Held Recently in Clubroom j
The Porterdale Woman’s Club
had its August meeting recently
in the clubroom with Mrs. Tom
Lester presiding.
Miss Kitty Burruss was intro
duced as a visitor. The Red Cross
committee reported a total of 85
garments finished during the
| month of August. The ladies who
sew are meeting at different
homes until the sewing room at
the gym is again opened.
Miss Maud King announced
that the beauty parlor in charge
of Mrs. Wallace Snow Covington
opened the preceeding Thursday.
The beauty parlor is being spon
sored by the club.
The minutes were read and ap

The drawing room where the
receiving line was formed was
effectively decorated with palms
and English ivy, with floor baskets
of white gladioli and dahlias form
ing color accents against the back
ground of greenry. The brides’
table in the dining room was cov
ered with an exquisite cloth of

embossed with orange blossoms
in cascade effect, valley lilies and
bride roses, and topped by a mini
ature bride and groom standing
under an arch. The base- of the
cake was garlanded with lace

The Mansfield Womans Society
of Christian Service met Monday
afternoon, August 10, at the home
of Mrs. Evans Jackson with fifteen
members present. Mrs. H. C.
Robertson president presided. The
meeting was opened by singing "I
Love Thy Kingdom Lord.”
“How Lovely is Thy Dwelling
Place,” was the subject for the
afternoon, Mrs. R. L. Epps pro
gram cha.rman, read Luke 4-16,
and gave the Meditation. Mrs. Guy
Morgan led in prayer. The pro
gram was as follows;

The annual reunion of the re
latives of the late Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Adams, one of Newton
County’s best known families, was
held Sunday at the home of Mr
Will Greer, near Hayston.
A barbecue was enjoyed at the

Small Daughter on Second Birthday
Mrs. Guy Robinson entertained
at a lovely lawn party Monday
afternoon at her home on College
Ave., honoring her small daughter
Irene, on her second birthday

The birthday cake, arranged on
a small table on the lawn, was
ernbossed in w hite and bore tiny
white candies. Favors were bright
ly colored balloons, folding fans,
for the girls and sacks of marbles
for the boys.

order promptly at four o’clock
Song was sung by group, this was
followed by repeating the “Club
Collect” and salutes to the flag of
the United States and the flag of
Georgia in unison.
The minutes of the last meeting
read by the secretary, Mrs. R. F.
Harwell, were approved. Mrs. M.
R. Ellington, treasurer, gave a
splendid report. Good reports were
also heard of the work being done

Two final parties in a series of
lovely prenuptial affairs honor
ing Miss Julia Porter and Miss
Harriett Porter were held Tues
day, prior to their marriage on
Tuesday evening. Mrs. Godfrey
Trammell entertained at a break
fast at her home on Conyers
Street for the feminine member^
of the wedding party and out-of
town guests. Guests were seated
at one large table and two smaller
ones, each being adorned with
graceful arrangements of pink
roses. Gladioli and asters were
used in the remainder of the home.
