During this critical period when
the government is rearming so
as to be read> for aggression, our
people do not want to see un
usual and unconscionable profit,
made. We are trying hard to
write a bill that will be fair and
just to all industry.
The House will convene Mon
day, November 27. Our Com
mittee will be in executive ses
sion after Thanksgiving to report
l the bill. Evidence before our Com
mittee shows that business condi-
I tions are the best in years and
; that corporate profits are very
high.
No attempt will be made to
take up the general subject of
taxation until after Christmas.
We are confining our work solely
to the Excess Profits Tax Bill,
in accordance with the mandate
of Congress. Witnesses from every
branch of business in the country
are appearing before the Com
mittee. and we will have the as
sistance and benefit of the best
thoughts of our businessmen.
