Visitors Welcomed For Dollar Days
Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18, will be super-duper Dollar Days
for all the surrounding territory with unheard-of values listed by the mer
chants of Covington. .
The Covington merchants have joined in offering to all the citizens of
Newton and surrounding counties values which will save thousands of dol
lars to those people who come to Covington next Friday, and Saturday to
participate in the values offered duringthese great Dollar Days.
We have stated over and over again we believe the merchants of Cov
ington are the finest in the State of Georgia. They are cooperative with their
customers and work together as merchants for the betterment of this com

We are mailing thousands of extra copies of this edition to all counties
surrounding Newton, and those people who take advantage of these special
drastic reductions for the Dollar Days Sale will be fortunate, indeed.
Christmas is just around the corner and to avoid that last minute rush
to buy presents, it would be fine if all our citizens of Newton and surround
ing counties would come to Covington Friday and Saturday and but not only

Baptist Fidelis Matrons Class Met
At Home Os Mrs. Piper On October 9
The Fidelis Matrons Class of
the First Baptist Church met at
the home of Mrs. W. J. Piper
October 9 at 3:30 P. M.
Mrs. Grady Walton, president,
presided over the meeting, which
was opened with prayer by Mrs.
W. E. Thornley. The devotional
was given by Mrs. Earl King.
The roll call was given with
22 members present. Minutes of
the last meeting were read and
approved, and reports of all of
ficers given.

Mansfield Baptist WMU Meeting Was
Held At Home Os Mrs. Frank Jenkins
The September meeting of the I
Mansfield Baptist W. M. U. was
held at the home of Mrs. Frank
S. Jenkins Tuesday, September
16. The meeting opened with
prayer led by Mrs. C. E. Rocque
more. The minutes were read
and the roll call and treasurer’s
report given. Mrs. Millford was
welcomed as a new member.
A motion was made an second
ed for the surplus money in the
treasury to go to the Cooperative
Program and Georgia Baptist
Hospital.
The correspondence was read
and Mrs. Joe Webb Jr., read the
committees for the year.
Covinqton Baptist V/MS Business
Meeting Held At Church October 6
The Covington Baptist W. M.
S. held their monthly business
meeting Monday, October 6. at
3:30 P. M. at the Church. The
president, Mrs. W. R. Nunn, pre
sided. The meeting was opened
with the hymn, “Give of Your
Best to the Master,” followed
by the Lord's Prayer in unison.
The W. M. S. Watchwords
were repeated in unison. The
program chairman, Mrs. R. H.
Patterson, introduced her sub
ject “Christian Citizenship,” of
fered a brief prayer, then led in
the singing of the hymn “A
merica the Beautiful,” after
which she very ably discussed
the subject quoting many
scripture verses. After a very
earnest prayer by Mrs. E. A.
Callaway, the program was clos
ed with the hymn “America.”
During a brief business period
the various committees reported.
The program chairman, Mrs. J.
A. Walls, announced the pro-

ing- was closed with prayer by
Mrs. T. D. Meadors.
Mrs. W. J. Piper read a poem,
after which the song, “What a
Friend we have in Jesus,” was
sung in unison followed by the
Lord's Prayer.

A. Stubbs served delicious re
freshments during the social
hour.
I After the business session, the
meeting was turned over to Mrs.
C. E. Evans, and Mrs. J. L.
Davis. The song, “He Leadeth
Me,” opened the program after
which Mrs. Evans led in prayer.
The devotional was given by
Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Evans in
scripture and poetry. Mrs. Evans
presented the program, “Japanls
Puzzled People," in a most in
teresting manner. The program
was closed with prayer.
During a social hour delight
ful refreshments were served by
the hostess.

The meeting was closed with
a beautiful devotional by Mrs.
S. L. Hardman, using Mark 8:29,

An enjoyable occasion of Fri
day afternoon, was the meeting
i of her Bridge Club, with Mrs.
S. J. Morcock, when she en
tertained at her home on Con
' yers Street.

of the living room, where tables
i were placed for the players.
Those playing included the
club members, Mesdames J. T.
McKay, Donald Stephenson,
Fleming Touchstone, Leo Masten,
C. D. Ramsey Jr., Al David,
W. S. Cook Jr., and Spence
Ramsey. Mrs. Al David won top
score prize, with Mrs. Donald
Stephenson receiving the con
solation.
Following the games, Mrs.
Morcock served a delicious salad
course.
Terry Reed Honored
At Birthday Party
Mrs. L. H. Reed entertained
Terry Reed with a party honor
ing his seventh birthday. Several
games were enjoyed by his
friends during the afternoon,
with prizes being awarded the
winners. After the games were
; finished, the hostess served de
licious refreshments. She was as
sisted by Mrs. C. E. Young.

On Sunday Afternoon

afternoon at the Julia A. Por
ter Methodist Church in Porter
dale. Our president, Pam Laseter,
called the meeting to order. The
minutes were read and roll call
made.

gram. We were dismissed with
prayer.
