beautifully decorated with light
ed candles and baskets of pink
carnations. Following the busi-
I ness session members were en
tertained by a program based on
the vitualistic work celebrating
the Chapter’s fifth 'birthday and
honoring charter members, and
1 Past Matrons, and Patrons of the
j Chapter, as well as past and
present Sweethearts and Mas
cots.
Sweethearts Amelia Spillers,
Emily Scott Kirkland, and
Cheryl Parr, and mascots Billy
Tribble, Stanley Harris and
Jimmy Lord were introduced
and presented with gifts. The
little girls, in crinoline and lace
i reminiscent of bygone days,
made a pretty picture against
the background of the colorful
evening dresses of the members.
All ths Past Matrons and'
I Patrons were present in the
Chapter room, being Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Kitchens, Mrs. Frances
Tribble, Mrs. Mary Spillers, Mrs.
Annie Sue Stokes, and Charles
Geiger. Besides those above
mentioned, charter members
present included Mrs. Elizabeth
Waggoner and Mrs. Cora Harris.
During the ceremony Mrs. Vir
ginia Dobbs, Marshal, acted as
moderator with the Worthy
Matron, Worthy Patron, and
Star Point Officers responding,
lighting appropriate candles
which flanked a beautifully dec
orated birthday cake. Those tak
ing part in this ceremony were

American Legion Auxiliary Meeting
Held At Legion Hall On October 6
The American Legion Auxi
| liary held its regular meeting at
I the American Legion Home.
! Monday night Oct. 6, and en
. joyed an oyster stew supper
with the members of the Ameri
can Legion, after which the
meetings were held separately.
Mrs. Sam Tribble opened the
meeting m regular form. The
program was given by Mrs. Tom
i Wiley, the topic for the program
i being, "Membership,” Mrs. Wiley
gave an interesting talk and

eligible wives, sisters and daugh
ters of members of the Americ-

Mrs. Brown, was welcomed as

Mrs. Iris Standard as the guest
speaker. Mrs. Standard taught
the second chapter entitled “The
| Word of the Bible,” from the
' Bible study book “Toward Un
derstanding the Bible.”. She clos
ed her interesting study with
prayer.

. president, was a welcomed visit
or who brought miniature Bible
bookcase bookmarks for each
j member of the circle. She plans
i to offer a prize to all those who
! recite the books of the Bible

। Numerous projects were dis
i cussed during the business ses
' sion. A motion was made and

i chased for use in the Porterdale
Hospital when emergencies a
j rise. A report was given t^at
| the circle made $61.87 profits
! from their sale of Christmas
! cards. Twenty-five dollars of
this was reserved for the grank
! ing of a Life Membership in the
| society, the recipient to be select-
I ed later.
Mrs. Florence Cowan, seure
-1 tary of supplies, brought a re
quest for supplies to be sent
I to Mrs. Esther Larry, a mission
ary to Korea. The list of sup
plies needed included vitamin*,
cotton print, flannel print, mus
lin, soap, thread, needles, and
powdered milk. Those articles
will be given on a voluntary
basis, but every member of the
society was urged to contribute
at feast one article and to do
this on or before the night of
the joint meeting October 23.
Mrs. Nettie Grove invited the
group to meet in her home for
the November meeting.
Delicious refreshments with a
haltoween motif were served to
the ten members and three visit
ors present.
Mrs. L. A. Patrick spent last
week in Decatur with her chil
dren, Mrs. -and Mrs. Joe Pat
rick.

Junior GA's Os Calvary Baptist
Held Meetings At Counselor's Home
The Junior Girls Auxiliary of
Calvary Baptist Church met at
I the home of their counselor,
Mrs. N. C. Sammons, for the
September meetings.
The missionary program was
on the subject, "Japan.” The
girls enjoyed a tea party, as well
as learning of the customs and
religions of Japan.
The study of Stewardship and
Forward Stops was the program
theme for the second meeting.
Directed community missions
for the month was carrying a
tray to ? shut-in.
North Covington Community Club
Held Meetina At The Johnson Home
The September meeting of the
North Covington Community
Club was held at the home of
Mrs. J. E. Johnson, with Mrs.
P. J. Garrison and Mrs. A. J.
Howell-as co-hostesses.
The meeting was opened with
a welcome to everyone, follow
ed by the group singing, “A
merica.” Mrs. Henry Odum Sr.,
led in prayer.

The Season of Prayer for State
Missions was held September 20,
with an offering of $3 from this
group. Other gifts included $2
to the cooperative* program; $1 to
the Childrens Home, and $3 for
local expenses.
The .promotion service follow
ed the Season of Prayer, with
five girls receiving certificates
of promotion to the Intermediate
Girls Auxiliary.
The counselor entertained at
a social honoring the girls.

fifth chapter of Matthew.
Old and new business was dis
cussed, and the minutes were
read and approved.
Miss Betty Turner, assistant
Home Demonstrator, gave a
very interesting discussion on
landscaping.
