New Telephone
Directory Put
In Service
Indicative of the growth of
Covington and surrounding com
munities is the large increase in
the number of telephone direc
tories now being distributed to
local telephone subscribers.
Approximately 3,018 new di
rectories are being delivered to
homes and businesses, accord
ing to John N. Booth, manager
for Southern Bell Telephone Co.,
compared with 2,623 when the
last directory was delivered.
The new directory contains
many new and changed listings
and other helpful telephone in
formation and. is easily distin
guishable from the old green
covered telephone by its gray
cover. A sufficient quantity of
the new directories has been
printed to supply every telephone
subscriber and to allow for fu
ture telephone expansion.
The classified section—yellow
pages—contains listings for busi
ness telephone subscribers under
headings alphabetized accord
ing to their businesses or pro
fessions. “The variety of classi
fications describing products,
services, professions and busi
nesses provides a convenient
ready reference guide when you
want to locate a firm or indi
vidual,” Mr. Booth pointed out.
Mr. Booth requests that the
old directory be discarded and
that the new directory be re
ferred to when telephone num
bers are desired. Looking up
the desired numbers helps to

Thrills Porterdale Kids
PORTERDALE — The eight
hundred voices of Porterdale
Junior High School blended with
one accord to honor the birth of
Jesus Christ at the annual Com
munity Christmas Tree in the
Porter Gymasium Thursday, De
cember 18, at five o’clock. A
magnificent tree towering almost
to the top of the building was
beautifully lighted with multi-

t Christmas boxes of fruits, the
(gifts of the Bibb Manufacturing
Company to the children of em
ployees, were arranged in rows
upon rows.
Agent B. B. Snow spoke elo
quently the words of welcome and
a Christmas message to the more
than* a thousand people.
Beautiful carols were sung by
the school children. A pantomime
depicting the angel’s message to
the shepherds was presented by
the sixth grades. Those participat
ing were: Shepherds - Ronnie
Christian, Mike Price and Dur
wood Savage; Angels - Mary
Bailey, Pam Laster, Sandra
Cawthon, Harriet Autry, and
Sandra Bowden and narrator -
: Richard Moore.
■ Words of greeting were brought
by pastors and representatives of
the churches in Porterdale.
