Covington Baptist WMS Meeting
Was Held At Church On January Sth
The Covington Baptist W. M S.
met Monday, January 5, at the
church at 3:30 o’clock, for their
monthly meeting. Mrs. W. R.
Nunn, president, presided and the
meeting was opened with the
song, “Another Year is Dawning.”
Mrs. R. O. Arnold, in charge of
the program for the afternoon,
opened it with a short talk on
“Taking Stock” of self and
habits. Reading John 4:21-25, she
brought a very interesting
devotional message with a chal
lenge to greater missionary en
deavor. Mrs. W. E. Thornley led
in a special prayer for Baptist
women around the world. The
group joined in special “Send the
Light."
During a short busines session,
minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved. Mrs.
J. A. Wall announced the pro

Presbyterian Circle No. 2 Held
Meeting At Exley Home On Monday
Circle No. 2. of the Women of I
the Presbyterian Church met
Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock,
at the home of Mrs. E. W. Exley.
Mrs Exley, chairman, called the
meeting to order with prayer. The
usual business meeting was presi
ded over by the chairman. Nine
members answered to roll call.
Mrs. S. J. Morcock asked that
the White Cross work which has
been distributed to the members
be finished and brought to the
Women of the Church* meeting
Monday, January 19.
Mrs. M. B Dendy gave an in
spiring Bible study on “How
Does Your Religion Show in the
Home and in the Community.”
The scripture was taken from
Colcssians 3:18, 4:6.
Mrs. Morcock, chairman of
World Missions, talked most
vividly on Presbyterian Missions
in foreign countries. The World

Weds Ben Hayes
Miss Josephine Ellis, daughter,
of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Ellis, of
Covington, was married to Ben
Franklin Hayes, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Hayes, of Mansfield.
The ceremony took place at
the home of the bride’s parents
on the afternoon of December 27
with only the members of the
immediate fatnilies present. The
Rev. Ralph Hawkins officiated.
The bride wore a tailored blue
suit with matching accessories.
Her corsage was formed of snow
white carnations.
After a wedding trip to New
Orleans, the couple will return
to Knoxville Tennessee, where
they will make their home.

Mrs Louis F. Lyda was the
brides matron of honor and only
attendant. Mrs. Lyda wore a gray
wool dress with black accessories
and carnation corsage.
The bride chose a navy woolen
suit, navy hat and accessories,
and corsage of blue carnations.
The bride and groom are mak
ing their home in Macon, follow
ing a wedding trip to Florida.
Mission season begins on January
25 and continues through Febru
ary 1. Much emphasis on the
World Mission effort will be held
during this week.
A film, “The Light Shines in
Bokubaland,” will be shown at
the church Sunday night, Janu
ary 25.
Mrs. John Richardson, secretary
of World Missions, will review
the book, “Led in Triumph,,” by
Ethel Wharton, January 30. at a
“spend - the - day,” with Mrs.
Morcock as hostess. A special of
fering for World Missions will
be taken at this meeting.
The meeting adjourned and the
hostess served delicious cake and
coffee.

Names Committees For Next Year

Mrs Howard Skinner was

The meeting was called to order
by the president with a welcome
to everyone and the group sing
ing “Silent Night,” followed by
the Lord’s Prayer. 1
Mrs. H. B. Landrum gave the
devotional, using as her scripture
the second Chapter of Luke, 8:14.
She concluded her devotional
i with a reading, “The Legend of
the Christmas Rose.”
Minutes were read and approv- •
ed and the roll call was given.
(There were 19 members and two
visitors, Mrs. Berto Skinner and
Elliott McElroy, present.
Business was discussed and
the president appointed a commit
i tee to buy the fruit and gifts for
, the sick and elderly members of
the community. The flower com
mittee was voted to stand for
[the coming year. The treasurer’s
reoprt was given by Mrs. Ben. ■
"House. The meeting time for the
club was changed to 3 o’clock for
' the winter months.

some Christmas poems. Elliott
McElroy played several Christ

Odum sang.

ed by Mrs. Howard Skinner and
Mrs Berto Skinner.

Mrs. A. H. David, president, presi

'Christian Soldiers.” Mrs. David
gave an intspiring talk on “Aims
and Hopes for the New Year.”
After the minutes were real

' ing of circle attendance was given.
