"Helping Club"
PORTERDALE — A group of
young boys started off the new
year in a good way by organ
izing a Helping Club in Por
terdale. This club met often
during the Christmas holidays
and will meet once a week dur
ing school days. The name Itself
indicates the purpose of the
club. However, the boys have
elaborated on the name io say,
“It Means to bring in eoal, or
cut splinters, or go to the store.
Oh! anything to help some
; body.”
The five original members
are: Richard Elkins, Charles
Robert Childs. Lonnie Dodd,
Sonny Benton, and Gary Finch
er.
They have invited Mrs. An
nie Day to advise them of needs
i they may help to meet.
Regular dues will be paid to
buy necessities involved in help
ing. Sonny Benton was chosen
to serve as the president.

ness Girls’ Club met Tuesday

clock, for the first meeting in
1 the new year. Miss Robbie Fin

prayer.
A lengthy business discussion
was enjoyed. It was voted by

time of future club meetings

Plans for a club hip to be
I taken in the spring were dis
cussed. Two new members. Miss
’ Emma Long and Miss Shirley
Cawthon were welcomed.

Psalm No. 23 as the devotional
and Miss Carolyn Capell read
a recipe for the New Year —
1953.
Delicious refreshments, con
sisting of cake and ice cream,
were served by the hostesses.
