Plant.” This was followed by
prayer.

Henry Odum was presented and

readings: “Pa’s Reaction to the
Christmas Gift of a TV Set,”
“Mandy at the Telephone,” and
“A Christmas Horseback Ride.”
In a more serious mood, Mrs.
Odum ended her program with
, her tender poem, “A Child at
’ Prayer.”
The guests were invited into the
dining room where, from a beauti
j fully appointed table, Mrs. George
■ Smith poured tea while Mrs.
I Meadors, assisted by Mesdames
iR. L. Hicks and Hiram Ellis,
' served assorted sandwiches, fruit
cake, and bon hons.

Covington Woman's Club Meeting Was
Held At Library Tuesday Afternoon
The Covington Woman’s Club
met at the Library Tuesday
afternoon, January 6. The Li
brary was most attractive with
berries and spring flowers.
Mrs. R. H. Patterson, presi
dent, called the meeting to order ■
and ‘ America” was the opening ]
song. Miss Sallie Mae Sockwell
led the salutes to the flags fol
lowed by the reading of the
club collect in unison.
In the absence of the secretary,
Mrs. Grady Smith was asked to
take the minutes.
Miss Sallie Mae Sockwell re
ported for the librarian, Mrs. R.
M. Mobley, that the money for
the purchase of new books for
the library ‘or 1953 had been
given by Miss Charles Porter,
and the books for January had
been purchased.
Mrs. Hugh King, chairman of
membership committee, submit
ted the name of Mrs. George
Cherry and it was unanimously
voted to invite her to join the
club.
Mrs. Grady Smith, chairman
of Ways and Means Committee,
reported that the final collec
tion for Rock Eagle would be
taken in February.

chairman of the hostess com
mittee introduced Mrs. Chester
Martin, President of the Geor
gia Federation of Woman's
Clubs, the guest speaker for the
afternoon. Her talk consisted
mainly of interesting facts a
bout Tallulah Falls School in
which she stated that Georgia
Federated Clubs had an invest
ment of one million dollars. She
gave a brief history of the school
and paid tribute to those club
I women who have contributed
। so greatly to the school through
their interest, donations, and
work. She stated the projects for
1953, one of which is a cannery
for the school.
Mrs. Melton, Secretary of edu
' cation in the Georgia Federa
tion, was introduced in a most
pleasing manner she stated the
objectives of Georgia Club
Women in the educational field,
urging that each club have^ a
department of education. She
j emphasized working for teach-
I er recruitment and the promo
i tion of study of U S. History
■ and Civil Defense.
