M . Sluck to ««i* saddle, Citron shows the "boys" how he won rodeo honors.
RIDE HIM, COWBOY!
BRONCO BUSTIN’ is pure monkey business to Henn,
Citrtm, Julian and their long-tailed primate friend. .
(Smile when you call me that, podnah!) Their mounts
are lithe, pedigreed greyhounds, trained to carry riders,
buck them off if possible, pull a stagecoach and do
almost everything else horses do, on a smaller scale.
Professional ariimal trainers are amazed at the degree
of training Robert Bandy has given his greyhounds, a
breed known for its independence. However, when the
Paris-born Baudy was brought to America last year by
the showman, George Hamid, he came with an accom
plished troupe of Wild West performers.

Living dangerously, Citron leaps to back of his "horse."
Photos by Arthur Sasse,
The 10 greyhounds rarely give Baudy any trouble.
He never uses a whip on the highly sensitive animals,
which respond to firm discipline if it is tempered with
kindness. The six monkeys are another matter. Baudy’s
arms are scarred and he has an 11-stltch slash wound
on his abdomen, the work of razor-sharp monkey tebth.
The animals understand only French, and there is little
difference in the ability of the greyhounds and the
monkeys to learn. Their dispositions, however, differ.
Baudy’s wife, Odette, helps him train the troupe,
which makes it§ headquarters in Trenton, N. J. She
works mostly with the greyhounds.

were procured in England, France, Spain and Denmark. Originally. Robert Baudy
had two tinned bears, but Odette was afraid of them so he removed them from act.]
Robert is the son of a kennel owner Paris. As a
youngster he knew that someday he would train his
own animals. When he grew up, the war broke out and
he joined the tank corps. He wa wounded twice, once
in the foot by a German sniper, on' ■■ in the shoulder;
when a bomb exploded. His wounds did not pain him
half as much as the grief he felt when his dog. which
had ridden in his tank through numerous battigs, was
killed by a sniper.
After peace was declared, Baudy returned to animal
training. Dogs and monkeys were his choice\They
work well together and with Baudy.
