Miss Iris Mitchell Became Bride

The marriage of Miss Iris
Mitchell, daughter of Col. Curtis |

to John Gray Bolton Jr., of Cov
ington, took place January 31 in |
the Presbyterian Brich Church. |
The ceremony was performed
by the Rev. Paul Austin Wolfe.
There was a reception at the |
Lotos Club. Mr. Bolton is the
son of Mrs. Reeves Bolton, of
Covington, and John G. Bolton,
of Cuningham, Pa. |
Colonel Mitchell gave his ‘
daughter in marriage. The bride |
wore a gown of white satin, |
fashioned with a fitted bodice
adorned with modified off-the
shoulder neckline, long sleeves,
and full skirt. Her finger-tip |
tulle veil was attached to a lace
eap embellished with seed

cliff Junior College. She was

dorf-Astoria in 1949 and is a
genior in dramatic arts at Co
lumbia University, She is the

Estelle Piper and of Mr. Vernon

Meeting Held At Home Os Mrs. Gibbs
The North Covington €Commu
nity Club held its January meet
ing at the home of Mrs. Jack
Gibbs Sr., with Mrs. Jack Gibbs
Jr., as co-hostess.
The president opened the meet
ing with the group singing “A
merica.” Mrs. P. J. Garrison
led in prayer.
Mrs. Jack Gibbs Sr., gave the
devotional, using as her scrip
ture the 23rd Psalm. She gave a
very interesting reading, “Re
cipe for a Happy New Year.”
Old and new business was dis
cussed. The president appointed
Mrs. A. V. Johnson to help with

For January At The Community Center
The Amitie Club of Oxford
held its regular meeting Jan
vary 13 at the Community Cen
ter. Hostesses were Mrs. Wil
liam Allgood, Mrs. Cecil Swords,
and Mrs. Henry Rogers.
Mrs. Carlos Meyer presided
over the business meeting. The
minutes were read and approv
ed.

Held At Home Os Mrs. Light Jan. 30
The Addie Branham Circle of
the Allen Memorial WSCS met
at the home of Mrs. Woodrow
Light Tuesday, January 30, at
8 P. M. Mrs. Furman Chapman
assisted as co-hostess.
Mrs. Light, circle chairman,
opened the business meeting with
the devotional, “God Pays Debts
Without Money.”
The minutes were read and ap
proved and the roll was called
with 14 present. The treasurer’s
report was given by Mrs. Cecil
Allgood.
The chairman then welcomed
the visitors, Mrs, Carlos Meyer
and Mrs. J. Hamby Barton Jr.
Miss Ann Hutcheson was wel
comed as a new member.
A request was received that
the individual circles share the
expenses on the baskets sent
during the Christmas season. The
circle approved this action.

Held At Brooks Home Monday Night
The Business Women's Circle
of the First Presbyterian Church
met Monday night, February 2,

for the Business Women’s Circle,

stamps to send to the Tex-Mex
School in Texas.
At the conclusion of the busi
ness session, a most interesting
Bible Study was given by Hugh
King on the subject, “What Kind
of Friends do you Have?”

The chairman then adjourned
the meeting and a delightful
social hour followed.

Hardman Home For New Garden Club

‘|new garden club in Covington,
. | The new club is sponsored by
| the Miniature Garden Club, with
l,Mrs. S. L. Hardman, vice-presi
dent, acting as advisor and tem
| porary chairman.
| Mrs. Haraman welcomed “the
|new club members and gave a
brief talk on the objectives of
]having a garden club in general,
I'and explained to them what they
|would have to do to become a
| federated club,
| Also meeting with the group
|were Mrs. Claud Jordan, presi
ldent of the Miniature Garden
|Club, and Mrs. Brooks Greer
and Mrs. E. G. Lassiter, mem
| bers of the projects committee.
| This committee was responsible
|for getting the group together.
| After a discussion of plans,
| Mrs. Don Wood was elected
'temporary president and Mrs.
J. T. Hooten was elected tempor
| ary secretary, Mrs. Jack Meadors
|was appointed chairman of a
| committee to draw up a consti
'tution and by-laws for the elub,
