If you are over 21 »r under 101) it’s none too sr
for you to follow the example of our hero,
Ed Parmalee, and face the life-saving facts abo.
cancer as presented in our new film "Man Alive I”.
You’ll learn, too, that cancer is not unlike serious
engine trouble—it usually gives you a warning:
(1) any sore that does not heal (2) a lump or
thickening, in the breast or elsewhere (3) unust
bleeding or discharge (4) any change in a wart
or mole (5) persistent indigestion or difficulty
in swallowing (6) persistent hoarseness or cou;
(7) any change in normal bowel habits.
While these may pot mean cancer, any one
of them should mean a visit to your doctor.
Most cancers are curable but only if treated in time ’
You and Ed will also learn that until science finds
a cure for all cancel’s your best “insurance" is a
thorough health examination every year, no matter
how well you may feel-twice a year if you are
a man over 45 or a woman over 35.
For information on where you can see this film, call u
or write to “Cancer" in care of your local Poet Office.

MAN ALIVE! is the story of Ed Parmalee, whone
fear is revealed in the denial, sarcasm and anger
he uses to avoid going to a doctor to check a symp
tom that may mean cancer. He finally learns what
a difference it makes (in his peace of mind and in
his disposition) to know how he can best guard
himself and his family against death from cancer.

' Bonds valued at $32,097,000 have
been sold and construction is

Applications for ten addition
al school systems are pending.
These additional applications,
together with those already ap
proved, will provide essential
facilities, for sixty-five per
cent of the state’s school chil
dren, he pointed out. Negotia
tions are now under way to
wards selling another bond is
sue which will finance the pro

not financed.
“It is gratifying to be able
to report,” Mr. Hand said, “that
the State School Building
Authority has received the en

wholehearted support of the
Governor, State Board of Edu
cation, State Department of
Education, local educational
forces and professional groups
working together in this valt
undertaking which will ultimate

for Georgia’s children.”
Commenting on the progress
report, Gov. Talmadge said: “It
is a report of achievement in
which all Georgians can take
justifiable pride. Your state is
going ahead rapidly to fulfill
her obligation to provide separate
but adequate and equal school
facilities for childten of both
races as is required by bur
State Constitution... Over 120
counties already have begun the
necessary preparations for par
ticipation in the State School
Building Authority financing
program, which ultimately will |
expend some $l4O-million in i
carrying out its important work.”
The Governor observed that in
getting the job done, the au
thority has laid down broad
standards and policies to make
certain that the school buildings
built under its responsibility are
life-safe adequate in space, con
ducive to good health, and eco
nomical, but at the same time
it has protected the inherent
right of the local school system
to determine its own needs and
decide whether it desires to use
the services of the authority at

Warmly praising the members

the State Board of Education and
the State Department of Edu

Better Lighting
Project Started
By Nearo 4-H'ers •
Negro 4-H Club members of
Georgia and their county and
। home demonstration agents this
year are expected to become
more aware of the importance of
good lighting in the home through
a new better light project spon
sored by the Georgia Power
Company and the Westinghouse

Announcing the activity, Paul
A. Crawford, Jr., agricultural
! engineer of the University of
I Georgia Extension Service, and
Mrs. Martha Harrison, assistant
state 4-H Club leader, said it
also will teach the 4-H members
what to look for in selecting
adequate lighting equipment.
The program calls for Negro
county Extension agents to give
demonstrations on making a lamp
I according to Better Light Speci

to make lamps for their homes.
The club members who learn
how to make the lamps are sup
posed to work up a demonstra
tion on good home lighting show
ing how to make one of the
lamps.
County eliminations will be
held to select the winning boy
and girl to compete at the dis

boy and girl winner from each
district will attend the Negro 4-

the state champion will be
chosen.
It was pointed out that club
members between the ages of
14 and 21 who have completed
three years in the organization
are eligible to participate. Each
county must have three members
participating in the project to
be represented in the competion.
Attractive awards are being
offered as added incentive for
outstanding work in the program.
Each county winner will recede
