Smith departed this life on April
26, 1953. And,
Whereas, said note has been
and is now in default, both as
to principal and interest, and the
undersigned elects that the en
tire note, principal and interest
has become due, in the following
amounts: Principal $1490.00 and
the sum of $305.45 interest.
Now, therefore under the
terms of said Security deed and,
the laws in such cases made and
provided, the undersigned will
expose for sale to the nighest
bidder for cash, the above des
cribed land, after proper ad
vertisement, on the first Tues
day in June 1953, between the
legal hours of sale before the
courthouse door in Newton
County, Covington, Georgia. The
proceeds of said sale will be
used first, to pay th» principal
and interest of said note and
expenses of said sale. The bal
ance, if any, to Miss C. B.
Smith, sole heir of the deceased.

and a Purple Heart Medal. Then
came a Bronze Star Medal for
heroism in section. But he still
remained a Private First Class.
About a month later, the Com
manding General of the First
Marine Division in Korea receiv
ed a letter from the Leather
neck's mother.
“Dear General,’’ it read in part,
“my son has received two med
als. When will he get a pay raise?”
A few weeks later, the Pfc was
recommended for a Silver Star.
