on the third Tuesday.

in unison.
A delicious salad course was

World Friendship Club
Holds Two Meetings

। Porter Methodist Church met on
j May 17 at six-fifteen. Twenty
people were present.
The game of musical chairs
was enjoyed. We sang some
songs. Miss Odessa Savage
directed a Bible drill. Prizes
were awarded to the winners.

The World Friendship Club
met on Sunday afternoon, May
24 Pam Lester, the president,
called the meeting to order. Old
and new business was discussed.
The roll was called and minutes
were read.
Every one enjoyed a Bible
drill led by our adult leader.
The meeting closed with our
standing for the benediction.

organized Y. W. A.’s of the Por
terdale Baptist Church held their
first meeting Tuesday. May 19,
at the home of Mrs. Allen Redd.

We decided io hold our meet
ings on the second and fourth
Tuesdays of eac-h month, but due
to a conflicting event, our. next
meeting will he held on June 2 at
7:30 at the Church. All young
ladies between the ages of 17 and
24 who are interested in joining
are urged to attend this meeting.
After the meeting a social hour
was enjoyed at which Mrs. -Redd
served delicious cookies and lem
onade.

Wildlife Camp
For 4-H Clubs
Starts June 1
Georgia’s 1953 Fo«r-H Club
camping season will get under
way June 1 when some 75 boys
and girls from approximately 50
counties gather at Laura Walk
er Park for the annual wildlife
camp.
Near famous Okelenokee sw- '
amp in Ware county, Laura Wal
ker is considered by 4-H leaders
and widlife experts as ideal for
this 4H event. The youngters will
go to sleep to the dronp of the
swamp’s giant bull frogs and
get up to the call of the park’s
cheerful Bob Whites.
In addition to this appropriate
setting, an instruction program
that will help the 4-H’ers—who
earned the trip to camp because
of outstanding wildlife projects
—to become even more famil
iar with nature’s creatures has
been planned.
Miss Elizabeth Zellner and F
J. Richardson, assistant state
4-H Club leaders, said recogniz
ed wildlife authorities and ex
perts will appear on the pro
gram as speaker and instruct
ors to assist the 4-H'ers in solv
ing problems of the realm of
the wild.
Richardson stated that one of
the highlights of the five-day
event will be on the first night,
Monday. June 1, when Ed Dodd,
creator of the Mark Trail comic
strip, speaks to the group Dodd
is drawing a sketch which will
adorn the cover of the camp
program.
Walter Gresh, acting regional
director. Southeastern Region,
U. S Fish and Wildlife Service,
is sheduled to speak Tuesday
night. June 2. Cecil Johnson. ;
Worth county agent, will make
a talk on safety Wednesdav j
afternoon, and Fulton Lovell. I
director of the State Game and
Fish Commission, will be the
featured speaker Thursday night.
Divided into four groups, the
4-H’ers will receive intruction
in Fish Ponds and Good Fish
ing. Plants Used for Food and
Cover in Soil Conservation and
Wildlife Program, Birds and
Reptiles, and Bird House Cons
truction.

University of Georgia Agricul
tural Extension Service; O. D.
Hall, assistant state conservat
ionist, Soil Conservation Service;
Paul Crawford. Extension Ser

Forestry; and Jack Connell field
biologist, State Game and Fish
Commission.
This 4-H event is sponsored by
the Federal Cartridge Corporat
ion.

Atha, of Oxford.

will discuss the “Local Club”.

at 8:30 and went on Mr. Cow

Swimming, boating, rides, and

creation. Singing on the bus
was enjoyed.
