Day of Recreation
PORTERDALE — Recently
Miss Mary Tripoe’s fifth grade
visited Indian Springs. We had
a wonderful time riding the
ferris wheel, the merry-go
-round, the boats, and doing
other interesting things.
Each child brought his own
lunch and shared it with others.
The grade mothers also brought
many good things to eat.
On the way back home we
sang, ate, laughted and played.
Our thanks go to the mothers
and fathers who sent lunches
for the class. We also thank the
parents and friends who went
with us and did so much to
help us have a good time. They
were Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Hayes,
Mr. H. F. Barfield. Mrs. Ines

62 For New Term
PORTERDALE—Friday morn
ing, May 22, was a special day
for sixty-two six-year-old boys
and girls who enjoyed a typical
day at school. Accompanied by
their parents, the children were
guests of the Porterdale School.
At nine o'clock they were greet
ed and registered in Miss Ruby
Lane’s first grade room. As Mrs.
Luke Allgood and Mrs. Woodrow
Light registered each child. Miss
Lane showed filmstrips. Peter
Rabbitt and the Gingerbread
Man were two of the delightful
strips enjoyed by the boys and
girls.
Following the registration pe
riod, they were invited to Mrs.
Luke Allgood’s Classroom for a
session of coloring and playing
with modeling clap. Shortly aft
er the fun there, the children
went to Mrs. Light’s classroom
where they learned songs and
listened to musical records.
An outdoor play period with
the swings, slides, and seesaws
brought delight and smiles to
their faces. One boy was heard
to exclaim “I like this. Will we
do it again next Friday?”
An appetizing lunch was serv
ed to the parents and their chil
dren at the school lunchroom.
When the children went home
at eleven-fifteen, they had a goo*
idea of what school would be
like when September rolls a
: round.
Miss Maud King, the school
principal, believes that such a
day for acquainting pre-school
age children with the school is a
winderful beginning for a school
career. They then have an en
। tire summer to thinx about the
things they learned about school
on their first visit in May.
