MM. DOUGLAS YANCfY
Hello Everyone! Well, we are
really in the new year of 1954
and I guess everyone made new
year’s resolutions last week.
Since this is the first week of
1954, I would like to wish each
and everyone a happy 1954.
The first Sunday of 1954 was ।
such a happy one for me—Janu- |
ary 3rd was my eldest grandson’s
birthday; of course, I had to ,
have him with me. In fact, all ,
my children, who are Dr. and ’
John E. Taylor, Jr. and.
three sons along with Dr and
Mrs. Jim Rogers, Jr., Becky,
Jimmy 111 and Janette, have all
spent this first Sunday of the
year with us. We celebrated
Johnny’s birthday and I can
truly say, this was a wonderful I
first Sunday of 1954.
The Salem Community was
saddened last week by the death
of two of its oldest citizens. Mrs.
Smith, who was Mrs. Candler |
Almand’s mother and Mr. Jim ■
Hinton, both passed away and .
were buried last Friday.
We also regret to report that ■
at this writing Mr. Chester j
Smith, Mr. L. P. Luder and Mr.
Homer Holifield are all sick
at their homes.
Sunday School attendance at
Salem has greatly increased. It
was very encouraging to have
such a large crowd on the first '
Sunday of the year.
Looking into the Salem Com- I
munity calendar, I see we really :
do have a lot of people in our i
community who celebrate a
birthday this month. To each of '
the following we wish a Happy ‘
Birthday and many happy re
turns, Geraldine Hayes, Vickie
Polk, Harry Melton, Sidney Bai- i
ley, Glenda Christian, Mrs. Leila i
Lester, H. L. Ratcliffe, Jimmy
Darby, Clara Lewis, Tony Me- .
Giboney, Monroe Hayes, Mrs.
Eunice Miller and Mr. J. M. i
Hollingsworth.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Jaynes, '
Betty Faith and Mrs. C. T. Jay
nes spent Sunday in Atlanta
with Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Rutledge
and family.
Mrs. C. T. Jaynes and Miss I
Betty Faith Jaynes spent a few
days last week in Loganville
with Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Peppers ,
and family.
Miss Peggy Jaynes of Atlanta
spent Monday night with her
parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Dusty Rhodes
and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Hays and son, all of Atlan
ta, spent a few of the holidays
with Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Thomas
at “Old Hundred.” Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Deck of Atlanta were
the new year’s guests of the
Thomas’.
Mr. and Mrs. Boggy' Blood
worth of Norfolk, Va., are spend
ing a few days with their par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Blood
worth, Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Branham
had all their children and their i
grandchildren home for the holi
days. They are Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Grey and children, Mr.
and Mrs. William D. Jefferies
and children and Mr. and Mrs.
Holcomb and children. Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Bates and children of
Covington were also the holiday
guests of Wie Branhams.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Doug
ins Yancey over the weekend
were Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Yan
cey, Misses Joyce, Glenda and i
Margaret Yancey, Mr. and Mrs.
J. T. Jaynes, Miss Betty Faith
Jaynes, Mrs. C. T. Jaynes, Dr.
and Mrs. John E. Taylor, Jr., .
