Julia A. Porter Methodist Church
WSCS Names Nominating Committee
PORTERDALE — The WSCS
of the Julia A. Porter Methodist
Church met on February 25 for
the monthly joint meeting of the
three circles. The meeting open
ed with the singing of “Give of
Your Best to the Master.” Mrs.
Guy Costley led in prayer.
Mrs. Costley, local WSCS pres
ident, presided over a brief busi
ness session. Reports were made
by different chairmen. Mrs. Thel
bert Cowan read a letter from
the Ethel Harpst Home in Cedar
town, Georgia expressing grati
tude for supplies which the so
ciety had contributed.

named to suggest a slate of of
ficers for the new year. This l

Mrs. Berry read the words of the

faithfully in their WSCS and
the church.
The meeting was ended with

Baptist WMS Meets at Teachers Cottage
PORTERDALE—Mrs. J. B
Williams, chairman, presided at
the regular monthly meeting of
the Laura Thompson Circle of
the Porterdale Bapstist W. M. S.
at the Teachers’ Cottage on Mon
day, March 1, at seven-thirty.
The Watchword was repeated in
unison. This was followed by
a business session.
Mrs. Alice Patterson, the com
munity mission chairman, thank
ed each lady for the gifts'
brought for the sunshine box
for a shut-in, which was a pro
ject of last month. Mrs. Patterson
suggested a new project for the
month of March.
Mrs. Grady Bowden was in I
charge of the program. The sub
ject was “Freedom's Holy Light
Rachel Patrick Honored on Fourteenth
Birthday with Party by Her Parents
Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Patrick
honored their daughter, Rachel,
with a birthday party Friday,
March 5, celebrating Rachel’s
fourteenth birthday.
Games and contests were play
ed and contests were won by
Gracie Lou Gober, Freeman
Rowe and Billy Daughtrey.
Freeman Rowe entertained
the group with several piano
numbers.

Baptist Church observed a Week
of Prayer for Home Missions
with special services during the
week of March 1-5. The theme
of ‘ ^.-edom's Holy Light ’ was

The concluding program was

the church on Friday, March 5.
Her subject was “Freedom’s
Holy Light for America".
During the week an offering
was received to be known as
the Annie Armstrong Offering
for Home Missions.
On Friday, February 26, the
W. M. S studied the book "In
Evangeline’s Country” by Dr.
John Caylor at a three hour
mission study. Mrs. Alice Pat
terson planned the study which
was taught by Miss Mae Hard
man and Miss Mary Cannon.
This study prepared their hearts
for the week of prayer for home
missions.

March 5.
