The Covington Chapter No. 337
of OES held their regular meeting
fit the Masonic Hall Thursday
night. March 11.
At the conclusion of the meet
ing everone adjourned to the
dining room. The table was over
laid with a pink cloth with a large
white birthday cake in the center
decorated in pink and green.

Os Baptist WMS Circle Number One
Circle Number One of the
Baptist W. M. S. met at the
home of Mrs. T. D. Meadors
Monday afternoon, March 15th
at 3:30 P. M. The meeting was
called to order by Mrs. Marcus
Bi'yant, Co-hairman. Mrs. Mea
dors led the opening prayer.
The W. M. U. watchwords were
repeated in unison. Minutes of
the February meeting were read
and approved, treasurer's report
given and offering received.
Standing committees gave their
reports.
The group discussed ways and
means of Junior G. A. work.
Mrs. R. H. Patterson brought
the program beginning with the
devotion,- Samuel 2—31:36. The
program topic was “Listing
Americas Morals,” with Mns.
Patterson very ably discussing
and near the close brought it
into a round table discussion
which all present enjoyed.
At the close of the program
cookies and soft drinks were
served by the hostess.

WMU Prayer Week
The Porterdale Baptist W. M. U.
observed the week of Prayer
March Ist to stji. The topic was
! “Freedom’s Holy Light.”
Monday, the service was held
at the home of Mrs. Sally Sowell,
with Mrs. Joe Burch, leader,
Tuesday, at the home of Mrs.
Frank Campbell, with Mrs. Lillian
Bowden, leader; Wednesday, at
the church; Thursday. A. M. the
ladies met at the home of Mrs.
S. W. Tankersley, with Mrs. Gora
Lee Greene as leader; Thursday
evening the ladies met at the
home of Mrs. J. B. Williams, Mrs.
Lillian Bowden, leader.
Friday the meeting was held at
the church with Mrs. J. B. Wil
liams as leader.

Called the Salem Home Demon
stration Club to order when she
asked Mrs. R. T. .Hull to give the
devotion. Mrs. Hull used the 27th
Psalm as her scripture, her theme
being “Child like Faith’’ and she
brought a very interesting dis
cussion on her chosen theme,
closing the devotion with prayer.
Mrs. J. F. Burns called the roll,
seventeen members answered roll
call. After the minutes were read,
dues were collected and during
the business session old business
was called for and unfinished
business was completed. The item
of old business discussed was for
each club member to give SI.OO

Presbyterian Church Meeting Monday
PORTERDALE — Members of
the Betty Patterson Circle of the
Porterdale Baptist Church
met in the ehucW lounge on Mon
day, March 8, at seven-thirty.
Mrs. F. S. Anderson, co-chairman,
presided in the absence of Mrs.
Hollon Sears who is the chair
man.
The meeting was opened with
prayer led by Mrs. Lewis Shaw.
During the business session,
minutes of the February meeting
were read. A roll call revealed
that seven members were present.

Porterdale Baptist Church open
ed the general meeting on Mon
day night, March 8, with the
singing of the hymn for the year,
“Jesus Saves.” Following a pray
er led by Mrs. Sallie Sowell,
members repeated the current
and permanent watchwords of
the organization.
During the business session

president, called for reports from
circle chairmen, young people’s
counselors, community missions
chairman, mission studv chair
man, stewfc'sh’D chairman and
literature chairman.

Presbyterian Church Hear Dr. Herring

PORTERDALE — The Morn
ing Circle of the Women of the
Porterdale Presbyterian Church
met in the Junior Department of
the Sunday School on Tuesday
morning. March 9th.
Mrs. Etta Curtis, chairman of
this circle, presided. The Rev. F.
S. Anderson had the opening
prayer. In the matter of business,
plans were made for the bed lin
ens for the Presbyterian Home
to be sent right away. The Fel
lowship Supper to be held March
28 was discussed. At this supper,
Dr. McElory, Director of the
Presbyterian Home, will be the
guest speaker.

Almon Home Demonstration Club Meets
To Discuss Fashion Show for April 2

' tion Club met at the church an
' nex on March 9 for their regular
monthly meeting with twelve
members present. The room was
decrated with lovely spring
■ flowers. Mrs. J. T. Owens, Sr.,
and Mrs. Harold Dobbs were co
hostess.
The president Mrs. C. H. Berry.
Jr., called the meeting to order.
The devotional was given by
। Mrs. Owens. During the business
session both old and new business
was discussed. The year books
| were filled out after which the
fashion show was discussed. The
fashion show is to be held the
first Friday in April.
After all business was discus
sed the meeting was turned over
to Mrs. Hazel Malone, Home De
monstration Agent. She gave a
very intresting demonstration on
nutrition. Mrs. Malone made de
licious cornmeal waffles. Pamph
lets were given out on poultry
and gardening.

Mrs. Louise Rutledge. Those
present included seven members
of the Laura Thompson Circle,
eight members of the Sallie
Sowell circle, and one visitor.

PORTERDALE — Mrs. Annie
Ridling was hostess to the Sal
lie Sowell Circle at her home on
South Broad on Tuesday, March
2, at seven-thirty. Fifteen mem
bers and four children were
present.
The chairman, Mrs. Sam
Tankersley, opened the meeting
with prayer. Mrs. Virgil Nor
wood gave the devotional, after
which Mrs. Joe Morrow led the
group in prayer.
Reports were given by various
chairmen. Community mission

Os Prayer for Home Missions
The members G the WMU of
the High Point Baptist Church
observed a week of prayer for
home missions with special serv
ices during the week of March
1-5. The theme of “Freedom’s
Holy Light” was emphasized
throughout the week.
On Monday night, Mrs. Bryant
Steele presented “Freedom’s
Holy Light for Indian Ameri
cans” and Mrs. Ernest Darby
presented “Freedom’s Holy
Light for European Americans.”
On Tuesday night “Freedom’s
Holy Light’’ was presented by
Mrs. James Tuggle and Mrs.
Hudson Moody presented Free
dom’s Holy Light Through
Church Extension.” On Wednes
day night Mrs. W. J. Lane pre
sented 'Freedom’s Holy Light for
America” and the Intermediate

week's program. On Thursday
night special prayer was offer
ed for the home mission pro
gram and Friday night special
prayer for the Annie Armstrong
