Fidelis Matron's Class Meets At
Home of Mrs. S. J. Hays Wednesday
Wednssday afternoon, March
17, at 3:30, the members of the
Fidelis Matron's Class of the
First Baptist Church met at the
home of Mrs. S. J. Hays for
the meeting of the month.
Beautiful arrangements of col
orful flowering peach, daffodils
and spirea in the living room,
presented a springlike setting
for the occasion.
Mrs. W. E. Thornley, president,
railed the meeting to order
giving a cordial welcome to the
members and especially to Mrs.
J J. Collin* and Mrs. Earl King
both having been i* for some
time.
Mrs. L. D. Pritchett brought an
encouraging, devotional reading
from Matt. 25,31:40 and Matt.
10.42, calling attention to the
words of Christ giving to the
disciples a promised blessing for
even a cup of cold water given
in His name. She spoke of how
Christ was always emphasizing
the importance of little things,
and that our lives would be
judged by the kindly little things
we had done in service to others,
closing her remark* by giving
this thought for the day:
I pray each morning that I be
not blind
To the Christ who moves that
day among my kind,

to St. Patrick's Day. Mrs. R. B.

meeting, ice cream and cake were
served by the hostess during a
social hour.
Covington Chapter UDC Entertains
Meeting of First District Officers
T-he Covington Chapter. United
Daughters of the Confederacy
entertained the First District
meeting March 17 at the First
Baptist Church. The District
includes the chapters in Atlanta,
Carrollton, Cedartown, Conyers,
Covington, Dalton, Decatur. La-
Fayette, Marietta, and Talla
poosa. Mrs. T. A. Rape oi Cov
ington is the chairman of this
District.
The meeting was called to
order at 10:30 A. M. by the
chairman. Pledge and Salute to
flags were led by Miss Sallie
Mae Cook, after which Mrs.
W. E. Thornley led in prayer.
Welcome was extended the
visitors by Mrs. Harry Dietz,
general circulation manager of
the Magazine, and was respond
ed to by Mrs. Edgar Lancaster,
registrar, of Shady Dale.
Mrs. John A. Beall of Atlanta,
division district chairman, was
introduced and made an in
spiring talk about the work to
be done in the districts. She
made several motions which
would help carry on the work
more effectively, and they were
passed oa unanimously.
The group assembled were in
spired by the addresses made
by the president general, Mrs.
Belmont Dennis, and the divi
sion president, Mrs. E. R. Harris
of Winder. Mrs. Harris’s mes
sage was broadcast over the lo
cal radio station. Both speakers
stressed the work to be done
in the chapters and prftised all
the efforts of the Daughters for
the magnificent job that they are
doing.
In presenting the President
General, Mrs. Patterson told how
proud the Covington Chapter is
to have so distinguished a mem
ber and each' member is chal
lenged to do thei* best during

of Mr. and Mrs. James Adams
on Friday, March 19. In response I

to the lakeshore cabin.

Mrs. C. P. Boyd was enjoyed.

, in Georgia to pay their part on
this fund. This has been the
main project of the U. D. C. for
three years, and when the fund
has been raised,* it will go into
a building to memorialize the
’■ Women of the Confederacy. The
building will be a permanent
headquarter? for the Daughters
' and has been needed for many
years. Mrs. Dennis hopes to have
this building completed during
’ her administration, and Coving
ton is glad to honor her by pay-
' ing their part so soon.
A delicious luncheon was serv
ed in the church parlors by the
members of the Covington chap
ter. After hearing reports of
all chapters present, the meet
ing was adjourned.

ton, Georgia.
Miss Reynolds, the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reynolds
of Porterdale, is a graduate of
the Porterdale School and has
attended Bessie Tift College in
Forsyth and Mercer University
at Macon. At present she is
employed by the Sears, Roebuck
and Company in Atlanta.
Mr. Hord is the only son of
Mrs. Grace Hord, also of Por
terdale. He is a graduate of the
Porterdale School and was re
cently discharged from an ex
tended term of service in the
United States Air Force.

met at the church, Tuesday,
March 16, at 3 P. M.
The meeting was opened by

tion.” Mrs. James Prosser pre
sented the devotional and the
program in a very interesting
and inspiring manner.
She used foie her topic, “Lift- ;
ing America’s Morals.” At the ,
close of her discussion the group
sang, “O Master Let Me Walk
With Thee,” and Mrs. Prosser
gave the closing prayer.
Mrs. Joe Webb Jr. presided
over the business session. Mrs.
Carter Robinson called the roll 1
and gave the financial report, in
the absence of Mrs. Dennis.
