Back Home
By MAMIE OZBURN ODUM
Poet Laureate of Newton County
From out. the darkness gleams a lamp again.
The beams run out into the summer night
To cup a welcome in the heart, of me
And flil my homesick hear with pure delight
Memories come, reviving yester-years
Os childish hopes, a broken doll or toys,
Or school days love, or overflow of fears,
Then days of perfect ecstasy and joys.
The lamp sends rays of golden beckoning,
My heart overflows with loves of long ago.
And silently my heart is reckoning
Os sweetest days that anyone can know.
Reverently I lift the latch once more
And pass within the portals of the door.
