DIETZ BROS., one of the oldest retail establishments in Covington,
and the surrounding area, today begins their October "Harvest
of Values Sale." Sam Dietz, pictured at the left, above founded
the business in 1921, with his brother Harry, now deceased. The
Dietz Brothers founders came here from Augusta. Formerly located
in the building on East Square, now occupied by Henson Furniture
Company, the business moved io its present location in 1921, a
landmark in the Covingion business district. Shown with Mr.
Dietz is his son, Irving H. Dietz, associate in the business. Mr.
Sam and son Irving were busy as this edition of NEWS went io
press assembling and displaying the many values offered in their
store in readiness for the sale beginning today, and advertised
elsewhere in this newspaper.
County Fair Rated Among Best;
Cattle Prize Winners Announced
Jack Wright of Covington was
grand champion winner in the
cattle show at the Newton Coun
ty Fair last week. Besides win
ning Grand Champion Mr.
Wright won first place and se
cond place in the adult depart
ment for his junior calves.
The Fair, sponsored by the
American Legjon Post 32, was the
best in the history of the County
Fair, according to all reports.
Cattle displayed in this year’s
fair was as fine as can be found
in any section. This also applies
to the exhibits displayed in the
exhibit building which were
given in last weeks NEWS giving
the list of awards and prizes for
this.
Grand Champion in the colored
division of the Cattle Show was
awarded to Carl Smith; he also
won second place in his group.

Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, serv
ing four years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Savage and
resides with his family on Floyd Street. Pictured on the right is
Arthur Lee Jacobs Jr., who has been named used car manager.
Mr. Jacobs comes here from Wagstaff Motor Co.. Atlanta. The
Jacobs plan to make their home here. Mr. McGuire invites the
public to visit the local salesroom to meet the new additions io
his force.

the Elliott Cemetery.
