| Hello! Everyone! Are you go
iing to make room for me to
come in- for a visit this week.
Well, thank you, and now if
you will allow me to do so I'll
sit right down here beside you
'and tell you hew sad we all
‘are out here at Salem this week
—One of our oldest and most
beloved citizens has passed on
to his reward and we are all
united in deep and sincere sme
pathy to his family. Os course(
I speak of L. W. Phillips who‘
passed away at Monroe in the
Walton County Hospital on Sa
turday night, January 21. Mr.
Phillips was nearing his 80th
birthday and had been in de
clining health for several years.
Mr. Phillips didn’t get out much
and his friends knew him for
his sterling qualities and his
quiet manner in which he lived.
His goodness can be measured
by the esteem in which his fam
ily and neighbors held him. His
greatness can be measured by
his words of wisdom — he ~was
a man of few words yet they
were words of wisdom spoken
always with a smile. He is sur
vived by his wife and several
children. Mrs. Grady Bloodworth
Sr. here in Salem is one of his
daughters — to the entire family
go our sincere sympathy. |
Guess that we had better get
off of that sad note and wel
| come young Clay Bailey into
{ our circle. Clay arrived at the
| home of his parents, Mr. and
| Mrs. Clayton Bailey last Wed
!nesday and to these proud par
| ents, congratulations.
| We just almost had a snow
' Sunday and it was so pretty —
we left Decatur around § p. m.
and there was just a few flakes
of snow to be seen for several
moles down the Covington High
‘;way and just imagine the sur
iprise when getting to Salem the
ground was covered with snow.
“We were rather disappointed
that it stopped so soon and was
‘all gone Monday morning.
Among our Salem people who
‘are in the hospital is FErnest
Holcombe who is a patient at
48 Hospital in Atlanta.
