Cadet Officers Named For
EAO Air Force ROTC Unit
Cadet officer promotions for
the Emory at Oxford Air Force
ROTC Unit for the year 1955-56
have been announced by Major
Troy R. Thigpen Jr. Two offi
cers have been appointed for
each position. The cadet corps
is a,training unit, and by alter
nating the command positions, it
becomes possible to train twice
the usual number of cadet offi
cers. This plan does not apply
to the Drum and Bugle Corps.
Enrollment this year includes
106 cadets (64 freshmen and 42
sophomores). Promotions of non
commissioned officers will be
announced Boon.
The cadet officer promotions
are as follows:

For New Term
PORTERDALE — The Ethel
Belcher Girl Reserves had the‘
first meeting of the school term,
1955-1956, in Miss Hardman's
Sixth Grade classroom on Mon
day afternoon, September 26
with approximately 50 girls
present. Miss Ruby Lane and
Miss Pauline Hardman will be
the advisers for this group dur
ing the coming year.
Officers elected to serve were
as follows:
President, Charline Hyatt; vice
president, Ann Martin; secretary,
Sherry Jeffries; treasurer, Ann
ette Preston; reporters, Peggy
Allen and Ann Kitchens.
Our dues for this year will
be $4.00, and we wil pay them
at our meetings on the first
and third Mondays in every
month. We will continue to meet
in the Girl Reserves room in
the Porter Gymnasium.
For our program, Ann Mart
in read a Bible story, and we
praved the Lord’s Prayer. .
We want all girls to attend
Sunday School and church this
year in order to be a better
Girl Reserve. Os course, we want
every single member present at
our meetings.
We were dismissed by our
regular benediction.

Baptist Revival
Begins October 10
PORTERDALE - The Rev.
Allen Redd announced this week
that final arrangements for the
Revival meeting to begin on
Monday, October 10, at the
Porterdale Baptist church have
been completed. The Rev. Lest
er Marsh of Mamers, North Car
olina will be the guest speaker.
Having preached here on other
occasions, Mr. Marsh is remem
bered as a dynamic speaker who
seeks to teach God’s Word where
ever possible. The Minister of
Music of the Glen Haven Bap
tist church, Mr. Fred Connell,
will be in charge of the singing
at the services, 3
Two services will be held each
day, at 10:30 o'clock in the morn
ings and at 7:30 each night.
Services will extend through
October 16.
Already, invitations are being
issued for the annual Homecom
ing Day to be observed on Oct
ober 9. That evening, the film,
“Missing Christians” will be
shown at the service at 7:30.
It is hoped that everyone will
avail himself of the opportunities
afforded in these services.
