Mrs. Joe Webb Entertains Bridge Club
At Her Home on Elizabeth Street
Among events of social interest,
was a delightful afternoon of
bridge, enjoyed Wednesday after
noon at the home of Mrs. Joe
Webb, when she entertained
members of her club at her home
on Elizabeth Street.
Red radiance roses in white
containers, and rose into scarlet
dahlias combined with scarlet
prince feather, arranged in white
pottery, lent a decorative note
for the occasion.

place Sunday. November 20th
at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist

The bride-elect is a graduate ।
of* Covington High School. She
attended G.S.C.W. for one year
and was graduated from Missis
sippi College at Clinton. Mis
sissippi, receiving a B.S. Degree
in Education. Following gradu
ation, Miss Bates was affiliated
with the Belmont Hills Elemen
tary School at Smyrna and the
Palmer Stone School in Oxford.
She is presently on the faculty
of the Covington Junior High '
School as eighth grade teacher.

Monthly Meeting at Hospital Thursday

Association held their regular
montHy meeting at the Newton
County Hospital, Thursday, Oc
tober 6. with 14 present. Prior
to the business session a deli
cious dinner was served in the
hopital dining room with Mrs.
Anna Laura Reid and Miss Eliz
abeth Branham as co-hostesses.
Following the dinner, Mrs.
Anna Laura Reid, president of
the association introduced the
guest speaker of the evening.

dent of the Newton County Med
ical Association. Dr. Palmer
made a most interesting talk
about the Tennessee Valley Med
ical Association, that was held

presided and called the meeting
to order with the song. “Take -

song.
Mrs Sam Hull brought the de
votional using responsive read
ing entitled. “Brotherhood of
Man" as a scriptural background.
Tbe theme of the devotional be
ing, “They are my people saith
the Lord God.”
The September minutes were
read and approved. Mrs. Doyle
Bailey gave the treasurers re- I
port.
During the business session
plans were made for a study
in November the book. “Within
two Worlds’” will be given at
that time.
May Livingston Circle Meeting
Held at Home of Mrs. Opal Goins
The May Livingston Circle of
the First Baptist Church held its
regular monthly meeting Mon
day night, October 10 at the
home of Mrs. Opal Goins on
Emory Street.
The meeting was called to or
der by Mrs. R. B. Yancey, vice
chairman, who presided in the
absence of the chairman, Mrs.
Torn Blair.
The minutes were read and
roll called by the secretary, Mrs.
Pauline Vaughn. Nine members
were present with one visitor,
Mrs. Pickett.

ported that at their meeting they
had 14 members present and re
ceived two new members at
their October meeting, also re
porting that plans were under
way for the Guild’s Retreat at
Salem Hotel.
Mrs. Burns presented the pro
gram “Find Grace to help in
time of need.’’ being assisted

sey. Miss Ruth Ixiyd, Mrs. Dovle
Bailey and Mrs. Roy Moore. Mrs.
Burn- brought the program to a
close with the Indian version of
the Lords Prayer.
During the social hour Mrs.

served strawberry short cake,
ice cream and soft drinks.

Mrs. Ray Moore, program
chairman, presented the devo
tional on “Women of the Bible"
followed with a discussion of
the women of the Bible by Mrs.
R B Yancey and Mrs. Vivian
White.
Mrs. Moore closed the meeting
with prayer.
Refreshments were served dur
ing the social hour by the hos
tess.
The next meeting of the circle
will be held on November 14
at the home of Mrs. Vera Helton
on Thompson Avenue. [

Mrs. Kerrpit Pratt led in prayer
' after which Mrs. Berry gave the
devotion.
It was voted to purchase new
pulpit furniture for the Church.

Mrs. Lucile Strickland gave a
very interesting program intitled
“Central College’’. There was
special prayer for the college
needs.
We enjoyed writing sentence
chain letters to our members at
Central College.
The stationary was attractively
cartooned by Mrs. C. V. Hicks.
Dismissed in prayer.

i mother, Mrs. Madison Hollings
worth, poured punch, and guests
mingled in happy fellowship
while they ate lovely white
cakes embossed with wedding
bells and dainty mints. The table
was overlaid with a lace table
cloth and the decorations in
cluded ivy surrounding the
punch bowl and two silver can
dle holders with burning white
tapers. The cakes were placed
on lovely silver trays.
Approximately twenty friends
of the bride-elect shared in this
1 happy occasion.
