THE THOUGHT: ‘-G-od for
bid that I should sin against the j
Lord in ceasing to pray for.
you.” (I Jamuel 12:23).
“These words of Samuel the
prophet reveal a noble soul, and
show the spirit we should have
in our prayer responsibilities.
Samuel's words are all the more
striking because he was speaking
to a people who had rebuffed
him in his godly counsel sr
leadership. Because of his ser
vice and counsel Israel should
have been willing to follow
Samuel in all things. But they ‘
chose their own way and re
jected the leadership of both j
God and His prophet.
What should a godly man
now do? Surely they deserved ■
to be put out of mind and ,
fogotten. But Samuel knew the j
heart of God: and fearing that
he might show some other spir
it, cried “God forbid that 1
should sin against the Lord in
ceasing to pray for you."
Do we take seriously our pray
er part in God's program for
others? All of us know some who
have injured or rebuffed us. i
Our natural bent is to forget
them before the throne of grace I
But this cannot be unless we !
insist on running into willful j
sin. With pure heart and mo
tives our prayers must not only
continue, but increase, that God
may deal in blessing both with
them and with us, and in His
power restore harmony.
Samuel’s God is our God
Samuel’s po-wer in prayer can
be ours. Samuel’s spirit of pray-
