MRS. SUMMERS'
SECOND GRADE
Twenty-six of our boys and
girls attended church services j
Sunday. All of our boys and girls 1
like to go to their church every
time they can go.
Nineteen in the class visited
their grandmother during the
weekend.
Linda Katz had a very happy
weekend when her tiny new baby
sister came home from the hospi
tal. x
Becky Banks went sight-seeing
through the north Georgia moun
tains Sunday and brought us
some leaves and rocks. We liked
hearing her tell about her trip.
Vicki Palmer, with her family,
visited her sister. Miss Claire
Palmer, in Athens Sunday.
The Halloween party was a lot
of fun. We played games and
sang some songs and had good
refreshments. We were sorry
that all of our committee mothers
could not be with us. We thank
the mothers very much for such
a gay time. Our science lessons
have been the study of water. We
like science very much; but we
also enjoy spelling and reading.
Some of us got new books last
week in reading. Others are go
ing to finish a reader this week,
and will get new ones soon. We
have not been able to decide
which of our subjects we enjoy
most. We will tell you about arith
metic and health when we write
another news letter. George Bai
ley went to Savannah and saw
some Indian mounds. Stanley
Cook visited Monroe.

We want to thank these mothers
for a nice party: Mrs. Mel Bon
, ner, chairman, Mrs J. O. Hunt,
Mrs. A. W. Crawford, Mrs. A. T.
j Stubbs, Mrs. Frank Cartledge,
Mrs. Claude Yarbrough. A real
I witch visited us and told us a
j story. She was Bill Crawford's
mother.
I Thursday we checked our work
-1 book pages. Friday a new boy
came, and is going to stay with
; us. His name is Hagan Stroud.
We are glad to have him.
We all extend our sympathy

FOURTH GRADE NEWS
(Mrs. S. Ramsey's section)
This is our first news of this
school term. We have 18 girls and
16 boys in our section. All of us
were in Covington Jr. High last
year except Roger Young, who
went to school in England last
year. We welcome him to our
school and town.
Since school started, these have
celebrated birthdays: Diane All
good. Sandra Cook, Clarice Hen
derson, Mary Jane Odum, Patsy
Warren, Linda Hosch, Roger-
Young. Ricky Hackett, Allen
Barnette and Larry Vaughn. One
day each month we celebrate the
birthdays with a "fun period’’ and
a treat.
On Halloween day, we had such
a nice party. An Halloween elf
had visited our room before party
time and had lots of peanuts.
Then quiet as little mice, we had
a peanut hunt with H. B. Adams
Jr. finding the most. Everyone
had fun guessing how mam
grains of corn candy were in a
jar. Charles Reynolds was the
lucky guesser and won the jar
containing 213 grains of corn
candy. Mrs. Jernigan read as a
most enjoyable story. Each had
his or her Halloween costumes,
then ghost stories and riddles
were enjoyed. Dblicious orange
drinks and decorated cakes were
served. Each one received a “trick
or treat’’ bag, bubble gum and a
noise maker. Many thanks from
all of us to Mrs. John Jernigan,
Mrs. Johnny Johnson. Mrs. Wal
ter Parker, Mrs. G. L. W»rren,
Mrs. O. J. Reynolds. Mrs. Harry
Reynolds and Mrs. H. E Craw
