Circle 1 Women of Presbyterian Church
Met Home of Mrs. J. S. Gardner, Sr.
Circle No. 1 of the Women of
the Presbyterian Church met
Monday, November 5 at the home
of Mrs. J. S. Gardner Sr. with
Mrs. E. G. Martin as co-hostess.
Mrs. Mary Callaway opened
the meeting with prayer. Mrs
George Berry intioduced Miss
Maud King who gave the Bible
Study on “Christian Ideals and
the Modern Home.” Mrs. D. G.
Stephenson led the discussion
on “Our Stewardship Practices.’’
during the conversation period.
The chairman Mrs. A. A Gur
itz, presided over the business
session. The roll was called with
17 members and two visitors,
Miss Maud King and Mrs. Op
helia Hicks, present. Forty visits
were reported for October. The
minutes of the last meeting were
read and approved with one cor
rection. The treasurer's report
was given by Mrs. Ed Robins n
Envelopes for the Jov Gift
and pamphlets on the Joy Gif'
and Tithing were distributed.

devotional reading from Chron.
2:9-14 also from Luke 11:1. She
spoke on prayer using scripture
on ‘The Lord's Prayer.”

Misses Jean and Jane Bowen Honored
With Birthday Party by Their Mother
PORTERDALE — Misses Jean
and Jane Bowen were honored
by their mother, Mrs. Eva Mae
Bowen, with a party to celebrate
their fifteenth birthday. The
Men's Clubroom in the Ander
son Building was beautifully
decorated in the colors of New
ton County High School where
they are students. At seven
o’clock, friends arrived for an
evening of fun, fellowship, and
food.
Refreshments of sandwiches,
cookies, cake, potato chips, and
punch were enjoyed by the fol
