28, when they entertained with

dining hall of the Masonic Hall

The Wendell Crowes were
genial hosts on Friday evening
when they entertained at their
home in compliment to S. J.
Morcock, Jr. and his fiancee.
Miss Cindy Scott, whose engage
ment was announced here
Thursday.
Yellow and green predomi
nated in the color scheme of
attractive features of the rooms

ing. Yellow pompon chrysan
themums interspersed with
showers of yellow acacia lent
floral interest in the entrance
hall, where guests were greet
ed by the hosts son, Wendell
Crowe, Jr., Miss Day Morcock.
who wore beige lace over bud
green and pink taffeta, fash
ioned with fitted bodice, full
skirt and pink roses at the
waistline, and Miss Lucy Banks,
wearing white, embossed bro
cade model in satotton.
A drum table arrangement of
yellow snapdragons, blue Dutch
iris and acacia: and a mass ar
rangement of magnolia foliage
and blossoms before which the
betrothed pair received guests,
were used to advantage in the
living room.
Miss Scott wore an inter
changeable peacock blue and
green pesante dress, with scoop
ed neckline, a self material bow
emphasizing the empire bodice
line, and the full skirt in in
termission length. Her corsage
was of white carnations. Mrs.
Crowe the hostess, wore an at
’ tractive navy model with pastel
floral print, which featured back
fullness: complimented by a
white carnation corsage. Mrs.
Morcock, mother of the groom
to-be was gowned in a becom-
I ing turquoise jersey sheath with

scooped neckline and rhinestone
tracings.
The refreshment table, over
laid with a point de Venice lace
and embroidered cloth, was
centered with a crystal and sil
ver epergne of yellow snap
dragons, yellow roses and pom
pons interspersed with plumosis
fern. Silver trays of dainty
heart shaped sandwiches, and
white embossed petits fours top
ped with yellow hearts, engage
ment rings and cupids. delight
fully accentuated the betrothal
motif as did the napkins with
the engaged pair’s names, em
bossed in pastel green.

Goode, Jim McKay and Donald
Stephenson assisted in enter
taining the group of guests,
which included former Newton
County High and college class
mates of the honor guests.
Among out of town guests
were Miss Phyllis Cox Bill
Whitesell, of Galax, Va., Miss
Patricia Joseph of Covington,
Va.; Chase Hunter, Cedar Rap
ids, Iowa; and Bob Wilson of
Lowell, N. C.

NCHS Homemaker
Os Tomorrow
Newton County High School’s
1959 Betty Crocker Homemaker
of Tomorrow is Eddye Cowan,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed
ward F. Cowan.
She received the highest
score in a 50-minute written
examination on homemaking
knowledge and attitudes taken
by graduating senior girls. She
will receive a homemaking pin
manufactured by Jos t e n’s,
which represents the slogan,
“Home is Where the Heart Is.”
Her examination paper will be
entered in competition with
those of other school winners
in the state to name the state
Betty Crocker Homemaker of
Tomorrow.
The test is designed and
judged by Science Research As
sociates.
Each state Homemaker of To
morrow will receive a $1,500
scholarship from General Mills,
an educational trip April 4-10
with her school advisor to
Washington, D. C., colonial Wil
liamsburg, Va., New York City
and Minneapolis, and she will
be a candidate for the title of
All-American Homemaker of
Tomorrow. The school of each
state winner will receive a set
of the Encyclopaedia Britanni
ca. General Mills will award a
SSOO scholarship to each state
runner-up.
