After a lingering illness of
several months, death claimed
Mrs. J. W. Stroud, mother of
Mrs. Slade Ellington Sr. Mrs.
Stroud has lived and visited in
our midst and It was with sad
hearts that we learned of her
passing in Macon last Wednes
day. Many friends of the family
join in extending sincere sym
pathy.
We, my better half and I,
visited Mrs. Elliott Millikin at
Georgia Baptist Hospital, Sun
day and found a former New
ton County resident a patient
sharing a room with Mrs. Mil
likin. She was Mrs. Ora Mea
dors, who worked for years at
the Porterdale Hospital. Mrs.
Meadors endeared herself to a
host of people by her kindness
to them during her years at
the Porterdale Hospital, who
will probably want to brighten
her stay in the hospital with a
card, and a card addressed to
her at Georgia Baptist Hospital,
Room 435 will reach her.
Ancel Bailey was home for
the weekend and his room-mate
Roddie Struth of Starke, Fla.,
and Miss Lucy Lee Pixon of De-
Land, Fla., also spent the week
end with Ancel, his parents and
Miss Brenda Bailey. The Doyle
Baileys accompanied the trio
back to Gainesville Sunday af
ternoon from where they re
turned to Young Harris Col
lege.
Miss Fay Landrum and Mr.
O’Neal of Conyers visited Mr.
and M'rs. Douglas Robertson
Sunday afternoon.

ing from Albuquerque, New

John Garner is the only man
to have presided over both
houses of congress on the same
day. On March 4, 1933, “Cactus
Jack” lighted a cigar as speaker
of the House and finished it as
vice president and presiding of
