Tribute To
Mrs. Stewart
Mrs. J. A. (Mary) Stewart
After a long struggle to re
gain health, Mrs. J. A. (Mary)
Stewart of McDonough entered
into rest January 28, 1959. She
loved life, its beauty, its pleas
ures. But God saw best to take
Mary to be with Him. In her
illness she strengthened many
by her example of devotion to
her Saviour and gratitude for
the attentions of family and
friends.
It was an inspiration to visit
her bedside. She always greet
ed you with a smile and a
pleasant word, and seemed to
enjoy every visit.
She was a loving and serv
ing mother and grandmother, a
friend to all. She was truly a
guiding spirit among her fam
ily, relatives and friends. She

loved people. She was a most
! gracious and thoughtful friend.
Visitors were always welcome
in the Stewart home, and went
away refreshed. Her gentle
personality and true friendship
’ will be missed by those who
* knew her. Her place cannot be

" opened her mouth with wis

law of kindness.” Her children
’ rise up and call her blessed, a
1 woman that feared the Lord,
she shall be praised.
1 She leaves hearts that are
sad and lonely, but hearts that
I will always remember her kind
• and loving deeds.
1 Mary was a devoted and
’ loyal member of Flippen Meth
odist Church. On account of
' failing health she was unable
1 to attend services for some
-1 time, but she showed her in
' terest in the cause of Christ in
' many ways. We thought her
life beautiful and admirable
even amid the physical lamen
tation of this earthly life, how
much more beautiful it is now,
free of these lamentations.
In 1906 she was married to
James Alton Stewart, who
passed away a number of years
ago. To this union was born
six sons and two daughters.
I One son gave his life in World
■ War 11. Other survivors are
• one sister, three brothers, six
I grandchildren and three great
: granuchildren.
’ She was the daugther of the
’ late Mr. Henry C. Perry and
; Caroline Stone Perry. Mr. and
' Mrs. Stewart lived in the
Rocky Plains Community for
‘ several years.
: Funeral services were held

Rape, officiating. Interment
; was in McDonough Cemetery.
I Many friends and relatives
i gathered to pay their respect to
Mary. The church was filled to

Tournament
)
Starts Today
LAGRANGE — Small college
basketball in Georgia hits a
high mark here next Thursday,
Feb. 26, when action opens in
the first annual Georgia Inter
collegiate Conference Tourna
ment.
The eight-team cage meet
will also mark the opening of a
just completed $325,000 gvm
nasium on the LaGrange Col
lege campus where games will
be played.
The tourney will feature in
dividual players and teams
which have records listed at the
top of both regional and na
tional small college statistics.
Oglethorpe University, unde
feated conference champion and
national small college defen
sive leader, is top-seeded in the
tournament. Allowing only 41.9
points per game, the Petrels of
Atlanta are currently leading
the second-place team among
the approximately 600 mem
bers of the National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics by
110 points.
Other quintets in the meet
will include Berry. North Geor
gia. Piedmont. Shorter, Valdosta
State, West Georgia, and host
LaGrange College.
ROYAL FRENCH
A “Royal French” motif can
be carried out on room interiors
simply by varying the color
scheme on Southern Pine pan
eling. When alternate sections
of the lumber are finished na
tural gold and regal blue, the
desired effect is created with
out artificial decoration.

Georgia Baptists
Add "I" Night to
1959 Calendar
ATLANTA — Georgia Bap
tists, who for 14 years have
been growing accustomed to
“M” night in Training Unions,
will add another alphabet night,
“E” night, to their calendar in
March and April.
Evangelism will be the em
phasis in churches throughout
the state as they meet in the
94 district associations for spe
cial rallies in preparation for a
Simultaneous Evangelistic Cru
sade.
The rallies in Georgia will
be held March 9 and April 6.
The March 9 date is for South
Georgia, on a line extending
roughly from Columbus through
Macon to Augusta. All associa
tions in North Georgia will
have rallies on April 6. Cru
sades in South Georgia will be
in March and in April in North
Georgia.
The rallies are planned for
this year as special emphases
to the crusade, in which most
of the nearly 3000 Georgia Bap
tist churches will participate.
Dr. R. T. Russell, Atlanta,
secretary of the department of
evangelism of the Georgia Bap
tist Convention, is directing
promotion of the rallies.
Little Boats
For Big Fish
Small boats frequently open
the door to man-sized fishing.
They provide the “entree” to
streams too deep for wading,
and furnish a convenient way
to fish those small lakes fre
quently neglected by most ang
lers. These little boats have
been pushed into the back
ground by big pleasure craft,
the Mercury outboard makers
say, but point out that they .
still play an important role on I
the fishing scene.
Unless your biceps are big
and your back broad, Mercury
suggests that you limit car
toppers to boats weighing less
than 120 pounds. Wood and
fiberglass construction seldom
meet this weight requirement,
so the firm suggests that you
confine your small boat choice
to sturdy aluminum or a strip
canvas combination.
Canoes are natural cartpn
pers. Light and extremely por
table, they represent one of the
finest craft available for fish
ing rivers or small lakes. Alum
inum canoes are especially
light, won’t soak up additional
aquatic pounds, and can take a
beating. Square-sterned models
powered with small outboards
make it almost unnecessary to
pick up a paddle.
Small skiffs are handy also, i
They’re stable in calm waters, |
and offer more freedom of
movement by boat occupants.
But, they can’t compete with
the canoe for shooting river
rapids or busting through white
caps on a wind-ruffled lake.
Select your car-top boat with
an eye toward the type of wat
ers you’ll be fishing most often.
Portability is the main fea
ture of a car-top boat. You can
load it on a ten-dollar car-top
platform, and can take it wher
ever you can drive a car. With
one of these lightweight craft,
you can seek out the lonely
fishing waters bypassed by less
adventurous anglers, and dis
cover a lot of fishing action in
the process.

pastor will preach. The mem
bers, friends and the public in
general are invited to worship
at Bethlehem every Sunday
