Ladies Bible Class of Newborn Church

Newborn Methodist Church met
in the home of Miss Maggie To
lar with Mrs. Annie Birdsong as
co-hostess on Wednesday after
noon.
Mrs. Hugh Adams presided
and the opening song was “Help

Miss Nancy Anne Head,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy
i O. Head of Decatur, became the
i bride of Ronald Earl Callaway,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Earl
Callaway, in a seven-thirty
candlelight ceremony at the
Glen Haven Methodist Church
in Decatur, on Friday evening.
The Rev. Mr. Marcus Martin
officiated in the impressive,
double ring rites.
Glowing white candles mark
ed the center of the altar be
fore which the young couple
exchanged their vows, and were
flanked by white baskets of
white chrysanthemums inter
spersed with fern.
An appropriate program of
nuptial selections was rendered
by Miss Floye Short, organist,
who also accompanied Miss
Charlene Burrell as she sang
“Because”, and as part of the
wedding ceremony, “The Lord’s
Prayer”.
Larry Mills served as best
man, and Charles Finley of De
catur as usher.
The bride given in marriage
by her father, wore a candle
light brocade sheath, with
scooped neckline and cap slee
ves, with wAieh she wore a
single strand of pearls, and
shoes to match her dress. Her
short, circular veil of illusion
was caught to a white satin ban
deau with sequin traced bow
trim. She carried a white Bible,

W. Loyd and Mrs. Corene Da
vis.
Mrs. Birdsong presented Mrs.
Gray Hinton who gave a very
interesting talk on the subject
“Judas,” written by Dr. Charles
Allen.
Some quotations were passed
out to the guests and a game
was enjoyed for recreation.
Miss Tolar’s home was beau
tifully decorated with spring
flowers. A large bouquet of
flowers were sent to Mrs. H. E.
Carson who is home from an
Atlanta hospital where she un
derwent surgery.
The hostesses served a party
plate with tea during the social
hour.

roses and stephanotis, with sat
in ribbon streamers tied with
stephanotis.
Mrs. Head, mother of the
bride, chose a navy faille cos
tume suit, with fitted jacket
and three quarter length sleeves.
Her accessories were in white,
and she wore a white carnation
corsage.
The groom’s mother. Mrs.
Callaway, wore a graceful navy
sheer model, with lavaliere
neckline and gently flared skirt,
with which she wore white ac
cessories and a white carnation
corsage.
Upon their return from a
brief wedding trip in the Smo
key Mountains, Mr. and Mrs.
Callaway will be at the home
of the groom’s parents on Jack
son Road, pending the departure
of the groom, on May 24th, for
Hawaii, where he will be sta
tioned with the U. S. Coast
Guard.
Peggy Crews Was
Member of Mercer
Sweetheart Court
Miss Peggy Crews, a sopho
more at Mercer University, Ma
con, was named on the Sweet
heart Court of Alpha Tau
Omega Fraternity at Mercer
University. Other members of
the court were Miss Evelyn
Raines. Macon; Macon and
Miss Libby Smith, Adel, Mis
sissippi; Miss Helen Henderson.
Macon and Miss Jan Powell of
Georgetown. Miss Caroline
Knight of Johnston. South Car
olina was chosen sweetheart for
the coming year.
The sweetheart and her court
were presented by Jerry Van
dehoef at the fraternities annual
spring formal held last Friday
evening at the Idle Hour Coun
try Club in Macon.
Miss Crews is a graduate of
Newton County High School and
is a sophomore at Mercer where
she is a member of Phi Mu
Sorority. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Crews of
Covington.

Mrs. Samuel L. Martin. Mr,
and Mts. Doc. Martin and fami
ly wish to express their heart
felt thanks for the many kind
nesses shown by their friends
in connection with the serious
accident experienced by Mr.
Samuel L. Martin on March 25.
The long, anxious, hours were
made more bearable by the
knowledge of the prayers and
the kind acts of our friends, and
for these we shall be forever
grateful.
Sam's condition is listed as
fair at Grady Memorial Hos
pital in Atlanta, Georgia, but
we feel much encouraged by his
progress.
