Creed.

Lady Elizabeth Oglethorpe So
ciety presented its distinguished
guest of the Sons of the Ameri
can Revolution the Rev. Vivian
L. Bray, Chaplain of the
State Society SAR’s, who gave
a very timely welcome address
to the Sons of the Revolution.
Dr. Kenneth England, Dean
of Met, Georgia State College,
Atlanta, gave the address to
the conference. His address was
most interesting on “Heritage of
the South”, giving sketches
from “Joel Chandler Harris”
and “Gone With the Wind”, in
climaxing on the more serious
subjects the “Southern Fam
ily”, who had full faith and
confidence in its kin and relig
ion. He stated in fact a Geor
gian was devoted to his land,
animals and trees, not just real
estate but pure nature.
Dr. England’s address was
followed by the nomination
and elections of officers and
the giving of awards. The
Blakely CAR Soviety received
more awards than all the other
societies combined.

CAR’s was elected State Color
Bearer for 1960 - 61.
The twenty - second confer
ence will meet in Albany Feb
ruary 1961.

Emory University student, in
Atlanta, for a recent meeting of
Atlanta L’Alliance Francaise,
which was held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gatins, on
River Road. The Stephensons
had as their weekend guests
their daughters, Misses Sarah
and Margaret Gail Stephenson
of Atlanta, and nephew, Billy
Budd of Denmark, S. C.

Jackie Jones Visits
LaGrange College
LAGRANGE, Ga. — Linda Hud
son. daughter of Charles L. Hud
son of Oxford, and Jackie Jones,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ches
ter H. Jones of Mansfield, were
the guests of LaGrange College
last weekend at the annual house
party for high school seniors.
The students visited the campus
to learn more about the liberal
arts college, to sample college
life and to plan their future course
of study.
A round of campus activities,
including a dramatic production,
a college fashion show, a musical
program, an art exhibition and
an informal dance to a local
orchestra, entertained the pros
pective students during their
visit.
During the houseparty, the high
school seniors lived in the college
dormitories, ate in the dining hall,
became acquainted with students
and faculty and discussed their
college curriculum with their fu
ture professors.
LaGrange is a foui-year. co
educational, liberal arts college.
It is the oldest independent coll
ege in Georgia, having been found
ed in 1831.

Entertains Her
Bridge Club
Mrs. C. C. Jarrard entertain
ed last Wednesday afternoon
with a dessert bridge for mem
bers of her bridge club and in
vited guests. Arrangements of
yellow jonquils were used ar
tistically in the rooms thrown
open for the occasion.
Winning high score in t h e
afternoon game was Mrs. Grady
Hays.
Members of the club enjoying

Grady Hays, Reuben Tuck, B.
C. Chapman and Miss Martha
Ramsey. Mrs. F. C. Marshall
was welcomed as a guest.

day evening.

enjoyed during the social hour.

to be held in Atlanta during
