Lodge, with Mrs. Fred Lott,

Hosts to Sunday School Class Meeting
On Thursday night of last week,
the members of the Salem Metho
dist Church’s Companion Sunday
School Class met at the home of
their teacher. Mrs. Douglas Yan
cey, when she and Mr. Yancey
were host to the group.
Billy Knight, president of the
class, presided over a short busi
ness session, as a new treasurer
was elected to replace H. E.
Sparks, who has moved to Atlan
ta. Also the class voted to make
a pledge to support the redecora
tion program of Salem Church
Sanctuary.
Mrs. Horace Underwood and
Mrs. Harry Melton had charge of
games and entertainment, and

General Meeting Held At Church

night, Feb. 22. eighteen ladies met
in the basement of the Julia A.
Porter Memorial Methodist Church
for the regular General Meeting
of the Woman’s Society of Chris
tian Service. Mrs. J. B. Mitchell
Jr., president, presided over the
meeting which was called to order
with prayer by Mrs. M. B. Shaw. I
Mrs. Mitchell welcomed the ladies
and urged them to remember the
many sick people in our town.
Minutes were read and approved.
The treasurer’s report was made.
Mrs. J. S. Nail reported on the
Spiritual Life meeting in the ab
sence of Mrs. Henry Berry. The
ladies were urged to attend this
study. Mrs. H. H. Dillard pre
sented to the group rules for the
Mission Study for it to be a Juris- i
dictional Study. It was decided
to have it for four Wednesday
evenings beginning the first Wed
nesday in March for one hour
sessions with the exception of the
final one, which will be held with
a one hour study preceding a
covered dish supper and followed

Donald Ballard, spoke to the
group concerning legislative meas
ures that have vitally concerned
the teachers and schools. He
gave a most interesting and com
prehensive report on the work of
the general assembly relating to
this field.
Two new members were initiat
ed at an impressive candle-light
service.
Plans were made for attendance
at the State Convention to be held
at the Shrine Mosque in Atlanta
in March.
Correspondence from the state
president was read and several
matters of local business was
discussed.
Miss Eva Mask, president, and
Mrs. Foy Ellington were hostesses
for the afternoon.

table's appointments. Mrs. Billy
Aiken served punch to the guests.
The gift table, heaped with a
bevy of shower gifts, had as its
focal point a gaily decorated um
brella.
Several bridal games were en
joyed prior to the opening of the
lovely gifts.
Miss Aiken chose for the occa
sion a black dress with matching
brocade jacket.
Approximately 65 guests enjoy
ed the delightful occasion.
Among out-of-town guests were
Mrs. B. L. Branan, mother of the
groom-to-be and Mrs. George Aus
tin, sister of the groom-to-be, both
of McDonough.

February Meeting At Jacksons Home
The Addie Branham Circle of
Allen Memorial Church held
their monthly meeting Febru
ary 16, in the home of Mrs.
A. W. Jackson. In the absence
of Mrs. Callahan, chairman,
Mrs. Cecil Allgood presided
Mrs. Eula Conrad was in
charge of the program with the
subject, “Settlement Work”. Af
ter the program a business
meeting was held and Mrs. E.
V. Moss gave the treasurery re
port.

Sims, gave her report after
which our new project leaders,
committees and hostesses were
named. Many members plan to
sew a garment for our March
fashion show. Following the
business meeting Mrs. Hazel
Malone, our Home Demonstra
tion Agent gave an interesting
demonstration on curtains, the
different kinds of material and
trimmings used. The refresh
ments consisted of homemade
brownies, dainty sandwiches,
